    Sorry I was not clear enough, I was meant that you run the tool also from console with the -i option and post the result, but please try the new version it should also display the hdd temperature inside the GUI and not only on console and post also the results of the console output

    Apologies. I did run the -i option on the previous two versions, but they appeared identical to the original output I posted. Temps did not display there.

    I have loaded v3, and LCD displays "RAID 0", but temps still display 0°C. Here is the output for -i:

    Here is the full output of smartctl -a /dev/sda -d sat. I notice that your output ends at line 193, and temp reports here on line 194, and only grabs data for one drive. Truncated output?:

      Yeah I do not own this hard disk models and can't debug on your device so we have to carefully approach in that way, here is test version 4 ;)

      Yes truncated, but not so easy to fix I think, the RAID controller answers to an special command with a SMART data string and I do not have documentation about this commands and how to get more data from the controller

        Ok here is another version, I have to guess what could be the problem and there are more possibilities where it can fail

          Ok that's a start, can you power cycle (complete shutdown and start) your CloudShell2, I just want to get sure the controller gets a reset and re-test the version 5 with the -i switch

          That seemed to do the trick! Thank you!

          After powercycle w/ v5 -i:

            Ok that's good 😃, I will fine tune it and release a new install package soon, thanks for reporting, software is only good if it's tested widely

              @all

              New version 1.0.16-1 is online: (Backup your current settings before installing)

              cloudshell2 LCD display and monitoring tool 1.0.16
              • Fixed a bug where RAID 0 level indicator was not showing up, thanks strych9 for reporting
              • Add better support for hard disks with a lot of vendor specific SMART data like Seagate where hard disk temperature was not displayed, thanks strych9 for reporting
              • Added more verbose output to info command line switch

              Example info output:

              Code: Select all

              cloudshell2-monitoring -i

              Awesome! Don't judge me for use of cheap Seagate drives ;). Easily replaceable data should one fail. 😏

                thanks for your awesome tool - working flawlessly except for one thing.
                After I've changed the system language to german, the info for the remaining space isn't shown anymore.
                Instead of the available space it only shows "Verw%"

                Running 1.0.15-1 on a debian buster based installation.

                    Is there any way to put the HD temperatures where the CPU/GPU temperatures are? In my opinion the HD temperatures are much more important since just a single drive can cost double what an XU4 costs. And being a NAS I don't use the GPU at all so that information for me and likely others isn't relevant but is prominently displayed.

                    I have a feeling there is no way currently but maybe a feature request :)

                      @rooted

                      That's a very good idea, although the CPU/GPU is more important to monitor because the hard disks are not getting that hot as the CPU/GPU does, but I will accept that as a feature request, maybe I made a option that you can read HDD0 HDD1 and CPU temperature as the three biggest font values and CPU usage where the HDD temperatures are now and skip GPU temperature because if you do not use a media center its not that important (like you said).

                      I have to think about that a little bit more 👨‍🎓

                      My drives are getting old and run warm, even with the fan on low speed all the time my drives run about 30°C when idle.

                      I need to upgrade them but my funds are low after the unexpected expenses I've incurred recently.

                      Thanks for the consideration, I really like the utility as it gives me the information I need in an easy to read format. I wish I had a simpler version on the original cloudshell, currently it runs cloudshell-nmon which is all but unreadable at any distance.

                      Isn't the original CS exposing also a framebuffer? Except for maybe a different resolution, why wouldn't the script work?
                      Also - reading temperatures from drives uses smart which wakes up the drives and keeps them spun-up when idle, and thus warm.
                      I prefer not to read smart data from my drives so that they don't wake up when idle.
                      30C when idle, but spun up is a great temperature, imho.

                      Also - reading temperatures from drives uses smart which wakes up the drives and keeps them spun-up when idle, and thus warm.
                      I prefer not to read smart data from my drives so that they don't wake up when idle.
                      30C when idle, but spun up is a great temperature, imho.
                      It's not a script, it's a compiled application.

                      I suppose the temperature is okay but at the expense of the fan running 24/7. I'm not sure if the drives spinning down is a good thing other than for power savings.

                      It may depend on the drive type. Enterprise drives are better off spinning always. Green/PC drives should be idle most of the time. My main drive is a 3TB WD green that is nearing 10 years of uptime. But most of the time its been spun down.

                        @mad_ady

                        My conclusion is that most of the peoples if they are using Spin-down are choosing a too small time value for the hard disks to Spin-down and so it can come that the hard disk will go in park position forward and back "200" times a day and this is of course not healthy for your HDD's. I have seen peoples configure 5 min Spin-down time ... even only when using network protocols like SMB aka NetBios aka MSBROWSE those network protocols can wake up your drive and this is what a NAS is doing most, sharing files over network.
                        Thank you, no, there is no Spin-down anymore with my tool, I have read a lot about it, mostly in forums about servers from server maintainers, my conclusion are two points:
                        1. The extra costs compared with Spin-down ON to OFF with two hard disks is negligible
                        2. Mostly a to small Spin-down time is configured which can damage the hard disk in the long run ( On servers they setup 5 hours Spin-down time ! That is not reached very often )

                        Cloudshell2 update.

                        @AreaScout

                        A week ago i reflashed my xu4.
                        1. I’ve used Debian Buster (armbian)
                        2. Cloudshell monitoring tool
                        3. Openmediavault
                        4. Kodi 18.2 (Your setups)
                        5. Compile new kernel with CEC option

                        It’s working fine, but I saw U have prepared kodi 18.5 with new drivera. I’m wondering if it’s worth to update to 18.5

                        Usualy I’m watching h265 and have bigger heatsink, temps are around 65-70 C.

                        What U think, will it be worth?

                        I know H265 on XU4 is software render.

                        Better would for me audio AC3/DTS passthrough, but there is nothing for XU4

                          Yes it's worth to update to 18.5, subtitel files where not picked up and hundreds of other fixes

                          There is a way to get AC3/DTS audio playback, but you have to stream audio from XU4 to an external source like:
                          1. A PC with Windows or Linux running PulseAudio and installed HD able sound card and or HIFI Amplifier
                          2. A ODROID C2 with HIFI Shield and HIFI Amplifier running PulseAudio
                          If you do have this requirements I can give you a short howto, it's very easy to setup

                          @AreaScout - I have successfully assembled the Cluoudshell-2 and installed your Coludshell-2 monitoring tool. The LCD shows the display. Thanks for your efforts. I have one issue while installation step of activate the fan.
                          I did download the package , when I extract the package which throws the below error. I have still continue the rest of the steps mentioned your post which are working fine except this step. Please advise what to do?

                          That url points to a webpage, not to the actual deb file. You need to get the direct download link

                            Yes that's right the download link is wrong, sorry, the fan script is not mandatory, it is just there for the first installation so that the fan is on as fast as possible or in case my tool doesn't work or crashes on reboot it's kind of a backup to have the fan running or turn it on manually with /etc/init.d/cloudshell2-fan start, here is the correct download link https://github.com/leeseungcheol/clouds ... _armhf.deb I will change it on the main post.
