SDR to HDR conversion

Post by noxunas »

Hi,

I think that the odroid N2 can do "on the fly", during watching movie, the hardware conversion SDR to HDR10, even if the source file is 1080p.

I'm right ?

Thks

I don't mean to be a wise #ss, but you are asking---can a car float on water like a boat. No it can not--it will sink. So will converting SDR to to HDR10. SDR uses BT709 color gamut, and HDR uses BT2020. The BT2020 has increased color gamut to display deeper color AND a wider brightness scale. It is the deeper color that displays much more vivid color. The wider brightness which displays the much brighter highlights--on displays that can handle those. Home projectors can display the wider deeper color, but not the brightness.

Now converting HDR to SDR AND using BT2020 color profile (but a decreased brightness) is VERY desirable for us pj users. We can still view the expanded color gamut, but with the lower brightness a pj displays.

Under Settings -> System - > CoreELEC you should find controls for HDR to SDR tone mapping and SDR to HDR tone mapping.
