So, the vnc server is on the pi4 and the client on the N1, or is it the other way around?
Is ping working from one system to the other?
On the vnc server can you run sudo netstat -tpan | grep 590?

No, it should work locally - with or without password.
Tell us what you did so far, what you installed, and what you tried so far (with output).

ok the code i put into a prompt it returned nothing just like there was no output..

then i tried to reach the n-1 with the vnc but it kept wanting me to login to some web site i am guessing,,

ok so i have VNC on the pi-4 and Debian on the n-1...so they both running Debian basically..as the pi-4 does not seem to like the router or something..it says the address is un reachable..

um that is about it i guess as i hawe no idea what i am doing with vnc ..it has an address bar at the top,,so i guess i must look at the n-1 to find its ip

i don't have any hdd`s hooked to the n-1 as yet,,

Ok. Let's start with the basics. Both systems should be on the same network and be reachable.
Over serial (or locally if possible) run and paste here the output of these commands on both systems

Code: Select all

ip addr show
ip route show
ping -c 4 8.8.8.8

Ok, networking looks fine.
Now, if the pi will be the vnc server, try the following:
pi:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install x11vnc
sudo x11vnc -geometry 1280x720 -shared -noprimary -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -display :0
It should start x11vnc (it will complain there's no password set, but it doesn't matter). Leave that window open, and now, on the n1 do:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install xtightvncviewer
vncviewer 192.168.1.101

Edit: sorry, I forgot your N1's hdmi is broken. You need to switch rpi with n1 in the commands I listed above. And use ip 192.168.1.100 instead of 101 in the vncviewer command

thank you i will try it to nite ...
so switch the pi for the n1 so you say...
hat would be the switch of boards and commands because i want the pi-4 to be the desktop..
i found my hdd adapter for the n-1 so i will hook a hdd to the n-1.

my rpi-4 is clocked at 2 gig i have a passive heat sink on the chip it gets warm but i want to run netflix on my n-1 if i can as well ..maybe um,,,...open media vault on the hc-2

could i also plug in a hc2 with maybe mate desktop installed on it

would i be able to run the hc2 as an file server ..etc..etc...on the same router ..network using dhcp on the router side of things

Yeah but it's gotten to be overly expensive these days, $20 a month is my limit then I tell them to cancel my account.
