Are the Android device, kernel and vendor trees available for this sbc? I've looked at your GitHub although the trees seem to be Abit outdated. I'd like to compile a custom ROM for xu4 although I can't do it without these things. I'd appreciate any information that can be provided.

Thanks in advance,

Voodik, thanks for your hard work.

I can't seem to get hdmi-cec working with LineageOS-15.1/Android-8.1 or the Resurrection_Remix_OS/Android-8.1 . - I tried on 2 different TV's Samsung UN40J5200AF and a Sanyo FW55D25F. However, on LineageOS-15.1-Android-TV it does work. Is there a setting somewhere that I've missed? - I tried toggling the HDMI-CEC Switch TV input after bootup, but that didn't make any difference.

Thanks for any assistance.

Mark

This is awesome. I am trying to use it with the new DisplayLink Desktop app and it has an annoying popup each time. I am being told that if I sign the APK with the system certificate/signature that it will just autolaunch and stop the popup keeping it from working for me (I do not want to have a HDMI display hooked up just to accept it starting and just want the DL display connected over USB). Are you able to supply these or are they perhaps already posted somewhere (git perhaps)?

Hi, I can't register my Odroid.
I follow instruction from the first post, but I don't get "Google Play Protect" message to disapear and can't add a google play account for the same reason.
I let the registration a day to be sure that is has enought time, but it don't work.
Any idea?

WiFi: LineageOS-15.1 Android 8.1 Oreo for ODROID-XU3/XU4

Post by bk_XU_AZ »

Everything seems to work perfectly for me, except the WiFi. I have tried four different kinds of dongles. I can enable WiFi, but it never stops searching for networks, and never shows any SSIDs (there should be at least 10 to choose from normally). I've power cycled and turned the WiFi on/off many times. I'm baffled. Would someone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this?

It is very worth to compare the VID/PID with our official wifi adapters.

Maybe I should've mentioned that one of the RTL8188CUS modules is the Odroid WiFi Module 3. Is there any way to make any of these work?

Voodik also has the WiFi module 3 and he can check whether it really works or not hopefully.

Hi!
After installing the update: Alpha-0.8_28.05.19/update.zip stops working Wi-Fi adapter, bought with Odroid on the official website a few years ago.
On previous versions of LineageOS-15.1 Android 8.1 Oreo for ODROID-XU3/XU4, this adapter worked fine. Did reinstall the system several times, the result is the same - does not work after the update.

Thanks very much, voodik. I don't think it installed correctly. Here's how I tried:

1) copy google drive URL above
2) open Odroid updater and paste URL
3) click "Download" (took about 2 seconds to finish, I have a fast connection- but???)
4) Click validate
5) Click extract
6) click restart, and wait

But the version information (Settings | About tablet....) doesn't look right. It looks like the latest public build. I don't know how to take a screenshot (using keyboard and mouse) to send you here. I have attached a photo of the screen. ( Sorry about the moire pattern)

It still acts the same, though. Searching for networks...

Download to PC.
Via USB flash, copy both files to root of internal storage (/sdcard).
Open Updater > Validate > Extract > Restart for update

Eureka! You've done it. It works fine with the Odroid WiFi module 3. One of my dongles handles 802.11AC. But it's not an Odroid module. Is there a way I can make it work?

Hello All,

Just wandering which Bluetooth dongle is compatible with this ROM, if you can tell me which bluetooth chipset is used.
Or if anyone found any working Bluetooth dongle from Aliexpress? For a previous ROM (Nougat) I know that only CSR8510 chipset was compatible.
I have an old Bluetooth v2 dongle but I guess it will not be compatible.

Thanks

Hardkernel Bluetooth module 2 is compatible.

BTW in my practice i see cheap China clone of this module, visual is same, have a same VID/PID but doesn't work. Because BLE is missing.

Hey Voodik- I want to thank you for your hard work and wonderful results. I needed this for an 87 year-old friend who is undergoing treatment for cancer, has shingles (finally getting better I think), and lost her only son three weeks ago. This was about the only option for her- and I thought you might like to know about a real user. I doubt you ever gave this user much thought when you were slaving over code, but your work is improving someone's old age more than you could know. (And my family will be using it too.)
These users thanked the author bk_XU_AZ for the post (total 2):

**EDIT**
so, this is rather infuriating and humiliating at the same time for me....
was playing with the screens, the OS systems, and started moving cables around. THAT is when i figured out that one of my brand new cables, was only half working. it was transferring power, but not data... So, the issue has been resolved!!!! :roll:

so, i havent played with my xu4 for some time, i got a new waveshare 7 inch ips touchscreen. new revision, touch will not work, even with previous screen that was working. its like its not even being detected in terminal. connect screen to windows 10 system to verify that all works, and it does. VID 0eef, PID 0005, mind you, which is the same the vu7 screen uses. disabling the vu7 inside the boot.ini does not change anything.

what gets me is it used to work with the 2.1 revision screen, but now it wont. not exactly sure what i did wrong here. im a little confused honestly.

Hey @voodik, I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of how to use gpio pins to natively control android elements like a cellphone, IE controlling home, recents, back ,power, vol etc with simple buttons? I am more of an electronics guy and can't figure out for the life of me how to just wire up and have working buttons

Either way, your roms are very much appreciated and I am impressed by the work you've done for the community! Thank you for everything

In AOSP kernel building is separate task, so you can read how to do it
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/soft ... ng_android

in Lineage-15.1 this toolchain is used
https://android.googlesource.com/platfo ... -8.1.0_r52

Code: Select all

mkdir -p /opt/toolchains
cd /opt/toolchains
git clone https://android.googlesource.com/platform/prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/arm/arm-eabi-4.8
git checkout android-8.1.0_r52

Code: Select all

export ARCH=arm
export CROSS_COMPILE=arm-eabi-
export PATH=/opt/toolchains/arm-eabi-4.8/bin:$PATH

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/voodik/android_kernel_hardkernel_odroidxu3_beta.git -b lineage-15.1_5422
cd android_kernel_hardkernel_odroidxu3_beta
make odroidxu3_defconfig
make
After build complete you need 2 steps.
1. push new compiled modules to odroid.
Because XU4 does not have USB adb port. So you need setup adb over network and push modules.

Code: Select all

adb remount
find . -name *.ko -exec adb push {} /system/lib/modules/ \;
2. now after pushing new modules you need flash kernel.
Again, because XU4 don't have a USB adb port, so you need flash it by boot.ini
Just copy out/target/product/odroidxu3/obj/KERNEL_OBJ/arch/arm/boot/zImage-dtb to root of FAT partition on your eMMC/sd
create boot.ini on root of your FAT partition

Code: Select all

#--------------------------------------
#
# SD to SD Recovery boot.ini text file
#
#--------------------------------------
ODROIDXU-UBOOT-CONFIG

#--------------------------------------

Thank you so much voodik, i really appreciate all your help. Sorry i havent replied sooner, i started a new job and have been having problems with my computer.

So i was able to make my changes to the files for the gpio keys, i re-added your commits that were removed, and added a test key under the entry for the Power key

HOWEVER - After running make and trying to flash the resulting zimage-dtb, my odroid goes into a bootloop, and i am unable to do anything. I will revert back and keep playing around with it, but i am unsure how to debug the odroid without a UART kit.

So maybe becuse of this i revert this commit. In general you need UART kit to development and debug.

Hello board members,

first of all I want to say (((THANK YOU))) to voodik
but also thanks to all the other active members here for helping out with thair knowledge
I am following this board now since 2 months and buyed a odroid xu4 for my project.
I chosed this board because of the most android friendly community.

BUT NOW to my problem that I cant solve since two weeks now:

I buyed a few round lcd screens from china for my project. the Problem is, the display doesn't work as I want.
for example, I want to rotate the display 90 dagree to the left, because the conector has to be on the right side of the screen.
next thing is, it flickers and has some kind of black overlays on the outer sides and has problems with the frequency and so on.

I have a config file (txt) from the developer, which was working fine with the raspberry and with few other boards.
But in this board it doesnt do anything. When I copy the necessary parts to the boot.ini with the app Solid Explorer and save, nothing happens after reboot.
Also, as soon as I use the odroid utility app for something, it overrides my file.

Don't know how to fix this. I'm a noob in programming and stuff, please guys, can someone help me out?
I am ready to pay for the help with paypal, because I know its work and I know you guys have also a life. :D

So here is my Setup:

Odroid XU4 running with this Android build and an EMMC, powered by a DC12v to 5.2v converter. I connectet the small Odroid wifi and BT dongles and a joystick.
The display I am using is a 800x800 pixel round screen from a chinese company. It connectet to a HDMI converter.

parts from the txt file I have to integrate into my boot.ini on SDcard partition from EMMC:

force_trubo=1
gpu_freq=300
core_freq=400

# HDMI Basic configuration
hdmi_pixel_freq_limit=400000000
hdmi_timings=800 0 40 12 40 800 0 12 12 12 0 0 0 60 0 44740000 0
hdmi_drive=2
disable_overscan=1
max_framebuffer_width=2560
max_framebuffer_height=2560

# Landscape-1 (Flexible cable is right side.)
#display_rotate=1
#framebuffer_width=1920
#framebuffer_height=1200

This text was for the raspberry pi 3b config file, or so.
I know It cant work with this boot.ini but I hope I can implement as much as possible with your help

Thanks for reading this roman and sorry for my bad english :D :roll:

You should open a new thread for monitor support and I'm sure joy will look into it.

Hello, I downladed https://oph.mdrjr.net/voodik/5422/ODROI ... 18.img.zip file.
Writed with Win32DiskImager to a 32gb sd card correctly.
I put my sd card and emmc, I switch to sd on the board, power on and the blue led don't power on like the videos I can see on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DBYWlV7MSI

What I'm doing bad?

Will there be an Android 9 based Android TV?
I read that the new beta 9 fixes dolby digital for us on Netflix/Amazon Prime.
The post below is from four months ago:
It's not until the current Android 9 beta, which is purportedly having the so much awaited Dolby Audio conversion (Dolby Digital Plus to Dolby Digital conversion) so you will be able to select the S/PDIF option inside audio settings and the audio from Netflix and Prime Video should be converted from Dolby Digital Plus to Dolby Digital to output to your old AV receiver.

Hi
Just a question..
with emmc how long it will take for the initial boot up? (approximately)

i'm finding my xu4 for takes hours... what could be wrong with this..
(with SD card ubunutu loads in a seconds...)

since Ubunutu is loading with no issue i guess nothing wrong with the board....

i have flashed emmc with following with etcher..

https://oph.mdrjr.net/voodik/5422/ODROI ... 18.img.zip

then i out mount the emmc on xu4 board and then powerup in the emmc boot mode....

Soon after power on ....the blue LED lits about one minute along with the cooling fan then both get off and only RED led is lit....

pls help me

Android eMMC boots takes less than 1 minute. But the first booting time takes several minutes probably.
You had to flash the SD-to-eMM image in to a SD card and select the boot mode to SD not eMMC.
It will run an installation process from SD to eMMC and turns off automatically.
Then remove the SD card and change the slide switch to eMMC mode.

Hello,

I have a problem with the microphone when using a USB webcam. Either it is not working at all or is so low nothing is picked up.
I have had a look at /etc/audio_policy.conf (and broken it - but with a backup!) but I suspect I should be looking somewhere else.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Hello, I trying to get Amazon Prime Video on my Android Tv working, but I can't start a stream, "Something went wrong, please contact the Amazon support"
Amazon support: Odroid is not on the List of supported devices, have a nice day. :(
OS is: Android/lineage-15.1-ATV/Alpha-0.4_01.03.19/

The second problem: I couldn't download Disney+: Google Play say: device isn't compatible with this app; but why?
