Android 9 TV as a chromecast receiver

Unread post by mad_ady » Sat Sep 14, 2019 6:31 pm

I'm currently looking to get a second tv for the home and I have my eyes on Philips PUS7304 https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/philips-pus7304, which has Android TV 9. The feature I want most, though (apart from ambilight) is the built-in Chromecast ability, otherwise I could get a decent basic TV for half the price.
The rest of the features can be served by Android on the N2, but what about having the N2 work as a chromecast?

Does anyone have any idea whether chromecast function is something that can be enabled as software, or does it require certification, drm and other such nonsense?

In my ROM (the ATV version) there is the Chromecast built-in support.

Thanks, I'll give it a try! Didn't know it supports chromecast.
Now I need to find an adequate dumb tv.

Nope, we can only cast Widevine L3 DRM level contents.
But, you can install this version of NETFLIX app which can play HD videos (720p).

I'm not familiar with DRM levels. I'm planning on testing the chromecast feature. My goal is to cast a desktop through google chrome cast tab feature, casting (local) videos/pictures/music through various chromecast APIs/Apps and casting the android phone screen (with games, videos and such). Also, casting youtube and maybe other chromecast enabled web services, but not Netflix or paid sources. Would that work, for my case?

I don't think you need L1 Widevine to cast your desktop so I think it will work.
