Call for testing: Kodi 18.4 with PVR Addons

Post by mdrjr »

Hello guys,

We are in the process of updating Kodi 18.4 for odroid-n2, as requested by many of our customers we are also including PVR addons..
Before I release this I would like feedback on those who use pvr addons if they are working.

How to test:

Code: Select all

mkdir kodi-18.4
wget deb.odroid.in/kodi-18.4-n2.tar
tar xf kodi-18.4-n2.tar
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
sudo apt-get -f install
Please let me know the results.

I installed this, enabled a few of them one at a time but could not get anything to populate in the TV menu. There's an icon spinning on the top right but its just kept spinning for a minute.

Installed just the ones I think I need:
- kodi_18.4-rc1+n2hk2ubuntu3_all.deb
- kodi-addon-dev_18.4-rc1+n2hk2ubuntu3_arm64.deb
- kodi-pvr-iptvsimple_3.8.1-1~bionic_arm64.deb
- kodi-pvr-iptvsimple-dbg_3.8.1-1~bionic_arm64.deb

Appears to be working.
When 18.4 is going to be on the repo? Any idea?

Small set of people's testing over the past month, maybe there are unforseen issues.

Are these harmless?
- DI: DI: tasklet schedule cost 36ms.
They flood my syslog during playback.

Also, it's not unusual for these black bars to appear when starting playback (both on pvr and local files too). They also appeared before update.

Pressing Back and returning to playback makes them disappear. They reappear after seek.

Another problem (in adition to the one before) on my pvr.
Pictures below with hardware decoder enabled/disabled.

Now I believe both problems are caused by HW decoding.
Please look into it. Software decoding 1080p h265 wastes a lot o CPU.

Just tested. Works flawlessly. Neither issues are present.

Edit:
May be worth pointing out that:
- issue #1 happens on PVR and local files.
- issue #2 only happens on PVR (at least the local files I tested it didn't happen).
- they only occur when HW decoding is enabled.

The issue is still present on the latest 18.5 update.

I downloaded and installed manually tvh client (kodi-pvr-hts_4.4.18-1~bionic_arm64.deb) from Your packages and it is working OK
why they're not included yet in the standard repository?
we're stuck on kodi 18.5...
I know that coreElec is more optimized for kodi&mediacenter stuff but people who want both of the worlds (mediacenter & server capatibilities) the only way is to use ubuntu & similar distros...
