(Solved!)New H2 RevB - Won't POST - 2 blue 1 red LED - Confirmed mem module

Unread post by HDL_CinC_Dragon » Fri Aug 23, 2019 3:44 am

Just got a new H2 Rev B, purchased directly from the ODroid site as soon as they came available, and it won't POST.
I'm using a single 8GB DDR4-2400 g.Skill RAM module, F4-2400C16S-8GRS. This is the single channel variant of the dual channel variant posted on the confirmed modules table.
I've tried booting with the module in SO-DIMM1 and in SO-DIMM2 without success. I've removed the NVMe drive, a Western Digital Blue 250GB module (WDS250G1B0C), for these tests and tried with and without USB peripherals connected.
The H2 has been handled exclusively while wearing properly grounded ESD bands so I'm sure I didn't shock it.

Any ideas?

I also think your RAM module is compatible one.

What happens if you press the power button?
Which HDMI monitor do you use?

The wrong one apparently. I had been using an old spare monitor that only has DVI or VGA input so I had an HDMI to DVI cable to plug it into the monitor. I had previously checked the cable and checked the monitor but both were good. Since you asked that question, I figured I'd test it on a proper fully HDMI to HDMI connection. Sure enough it came up just fine! Is this possibly an "issue" with HDCP doing it's job and not transmitting because it couldn't guarantee the connection?

Either way, thanks for the help odroid! I certainly would never have thought that was the issue!

Glad to hear that.

I think wrong EDID data from your DVI monitor seems to be a root cause since we also have several different old DVI monitors and they worked well with H2.

I tested that theory and that seems to be the problem. Used a different monitor with the same HDMI to DVI cable.
I'll have to add "use a different monitor even if the monitor is known good" to my standard troubleshooting toolbox from now on!
