[SOLVED] VU7A+ on Odroid H2

Unread post by domih » Thu Aug 22, 2019 10:53 am

Dear Odroid,

I connected a VU7A+ to my second H2. I then followed the instructions at https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-h2/appli ... ouchdriver

I tried it both as 2nd monitor (the other one being the main monitor) and as main monitor (the other one being disconnected).

Image and functionality are OK.

The only thing I can't make work is the touch capability. I can tap and gesture as much as I can, no reaction. Regular use of the mouse works OK.

What point am I missing?

Running Ubuntu Mate 18.04 with latest updates (so kernel 5.x).

TIA!

Code: Select all

domih@h2b:~$ cat /sys/module/usbhid/parameters/quirks

Trying tonight, I finally understood what is going on. When I tap or press & drag on the VU it actually works but on the MAIN monitor. I guess yesterday I had my eyes glued to the VU and not both monitors. If I change the displays to mirror mode, then it makes sense.

So my question is now: when using two monitors, is it possible to have the events happening on the VU actually happening on the VU and not the main monitor when they are not in mirror mode.

NOTE: It is not at all a major issue if no obvious solution exists. I just tried it on the H2 to see how it works, a XU-4 will probably end up in the VU shell anyway. I was just starting to think that I could explore the VU as a replacement for the small LCD to show more stats with actionable buttons (using Qt or other via Python GUI). But I have not decided yet, and the VU would then be the main screen anyway.

The VU7A+ is still on sales if you are interested in using a touch screen with your H2 router.

But I think Hard Kernel stopped producing the VU Shell given the lack of enthusiasm from the populace (meaning us). So either you find it on a dealer site either you build your own box.

As far as I remember, the touch event mapping to a different display could be possible by editing xorg.conf file long time ago.

Anyway, good to hear the touchscreen works at least.

Well, if it involves editing xorg.conf (vade retro satana!) I'm not going to explore further :o :D

An unavoidable absolute truth on this planet: the fastest and best way to screw up your Linux Desktop for good is to fiddle with xorg.conf.

If I sound like a coward, so be it. I don't mind ;)

So it will be an XU-4 landing in the VU shell case with the VU7A+ as main screen.

Okej thx for info. Didn't see any IMG on wiki so star to wonder what is it. Now I know. I am looking for a touch screen but it's for raspberry pi4 and some bigger size.

Anyway foot to know what there so you maybe buy it if you finding a place for it. ;)
