180" rotated emmc-card

Unread post by gsgs » Fri Aug 09, 2019 1:23 am

I may have (partly) destroyed my Odroid-N2 by booting from 180" rotated eMMc-card.
(I'm not sure if that was the reason, though)

This is presumably a common error ?!?

it did smell burnt.

Now it always boots from SD and I can't access any USB-port, no mouse, no keyboard.
But it seems to boot correctly. What can I do

How could you attach the eMMC rotated??

Can you measure the voltage at pin #2 or #4 if it has 5.0V? Also pin #1 if it has 3.3V?
https://wiki.odroid.com/_detail/odroid- ... connectors

Is the red LED on or off?

Are you able to start Petitboot while eMMC is connected and see if it shows the boot entry on eMMC?

red is on.
Blue flashes and it boots when a SD-card is inserted , TV-image is normal.
Without sd-card , (only emmc in the middle) blue remains off and it doesn't boot,

The boot-switch-button no longer matters.

Can you boot from SD card when eMMC is attached?
If so, please do some commands below and let me have the outputs.

Code: Select all

$ ls /dev/mmcblk*
$ lsusb -t
When did you purchase the board and from where?

emmc is ignored, it boots from SD, when possible.
I cannot enter commands, because keyboard, mouse,USB are dead.
I baught it at ebay, it worked correctly before.

I could not measure voltage, because now I also destroyed my measuing device :-(
But I tried to attach a fan to any of the 8 possibilities of 2 outer pins
(your pic had 4fold symmetry) and none made the fan spin.
I also attached a USB-light to the 4 USB-ports and it stays always dark.
A charger doctor also stayed dark. (while the odroid had booted Android and the TV
shows the correct image)

---------edit------ voltage between any of the 2 outer pins is 0.5 at most

Can you try with a usb-otg cable to see if the usb2 host still works?

I don't know. I tried to find a usb otg cable at ebay, but they are all "micro" .
I tried a normal USB-cable, male on both sides, normal not mini not micro,
connected to PC , but nothing happened under Windows..
However, nothing happened with the raspberry pi either.
Then I connected a USB-Hub to the odroid and connected
one of the Hub-ports to a charger. An optical mouse in one of the other Hub-ports
got power now (LED), but no reaction on the screen.

The N2 has a small microusb port on the back, next to the SPI slider where you could try to put a USB-OTG adapter and that might let you connect a keyboard (if it works)

yes ! Thanks. I didn't know that. Or I may have known it but forgot.

And indeed that port still works. I could attach a mouse with OTG-adapter and everything
worked as normal. So the Odroid is 80% saved. Maybe I can attach a micro-USB-Hub
to that port

under Android commanline (Jackpal) it says :
001 Device 001 : ID 1d6b : 0002
002 Device 001 : ID 1d6b : 0003
001 Device 089 : ID 04d9 : 1603
-----------------------------------------------
under Linux it says this :
http://magictour.free.fr/odroid2.JPG

both booting cards were bought at ebay from Pollin.de

seems to be independent on what is plugged into the (powerless) USB-ports
