Tested monitors in our office.

LG FLATRON M2780D 720p/1080p (27 inch 1920x1080)
LG FLATRON M2752 720p/1080p (27 inch 1920x1080)
LG FLATRON EX235 720p/1080p (22 inch 1920x1080)
TopSync OR2405 720p/1080p (27inch 1920x1200)
LG XCANVAS 42SL90QD 720p/1080p (42inch 1920x1080)

Another information.
Very old SAMSUNG SyncMaster Magic CX702B (1280x1024).
This monitor has only VGA input.
So we need a micro HDMI to VGA converter AA-AH1NAMB (Samsung made).

I am running X2 on Samsung P2770 at 1080p on both Ubuntu and Android.

Does anyone have experience with monitors that don't work with U2/X2? I want to buy a dedicated monitor just for the X2 and I am interested in a list of monitors to avoid.

Thank you!

[Edit]
It turns out my problems are all connection problems at the micro-HDMI connector. Since this topic is about displays, I'll save my anti-micro-HDMI rant for another thread.
Now recommended: Vizio M221NV.

Original post:
Not recommended: Vizio M221NV.

I've been very happy with this TV/monitor for the most part but I don't think it is a good match with the Odroid-x2. My x2 worked fine in HDMI port 2 for about 3 weeks, then the monitor began going black when I ran certain applications. By fiddling with the monitor menu I could see that the x2 was still sending a signal. It was a bit like a game - sometimes I could use my left hand to fiddle with the monitor remote and my right to close the offending window on the x2.

I finally "fixed" the problem by switching the x2 to HDMI port 1. My Sony Blu-ray player is rock solid in either HDMI port. I suspect the amplitude of my Odroid-x2 HDMI output is marginal but I do _not_ have any equipment with which to check a 1.65 GHz signal.

This is all 1080p. (I don't seem to be able to get the x2 to produce a 720p signal - I'll post details on that in a different thread.)

We've heard some monitors/TV have the compatibility issue.
Those monitors have 1600x900 or 1680x1050 or 1440x900 resolution natively.

Samsung T27A500 at 1280x720 works like a charm. Wasn't able to boot it in 1080p.

Samsung P2370 with generic HDMI->DVI adapter don't work.

I tried in 2 displays at my work, both don't have 720p as the standard resolution, and didn't worked too. I will get their identifications and put it here.

I'm using Samsung P2370HN, HDMI @ 1080p is perfect. Please kindly to notice that, if the screen seems to be enlarged and not able to show the borders, you should change the size to full screen rather than 16:9 in the settings of the monitor.
This problem took me 20 min to fix.

Sony Bravia TV KDL-32EX710:

720p/1080p 60Hz working perfect with Android/Linux.

In the Menu Display>Screen set Auto Format/Auto Display Area to off. Set Display Area to +1 for full unscaled resolution without missing borders.

The 720i/p 1080i/p 24/50Hz screenmodes works perfect with this TV also, but it seems like the U2 is missing these very usefull modes in the system settings 8-)

Asus VS228H:

X2
1080p60hz hdmi Ubuntu 13.04 DreamMaschine works fine
1080p60hz hdmi to dvi 13.04 DreamMaschine works fine

XU

1080p60hz hdmi to dvi 13.04 works
But you can't boot with connected hdmi- or hdmi-to-dvi-cable. Disconnect the cable first, push power button and than reconnect the hdmi cable (look: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f ... iew=unread)

Cheap microHDMI2VGA converter on BenQ GL2250

Unread post by renegat » Fri Dec 20, 2013 9:59 pm

U2: NoName microHDMI2VGA on BenQ GL2250 / ArchLinux ARM Openbox LXDE@1080p

There is a very cheap converter "1080P Micro HDMI To VGA Adapter for PS3 Xbox 360 Set top box Tablets HDTV" for 7,-€ (ca. 10 US$) sold at e-bay which works flawless with a BenQ GL2250 assumed you are using a really well shielded VGA Cable with sheath current filter (ferrite core) which should be as short as possible. Otherwise you will get a black screen for some seconds now and then.
If you experience a slight opaque rendering you should try to raise gamma correction on the monitor.

About SAMSUNG BX2231 21,5":

I have a male hdmi to male hdmi cable, that i paired with a female hdmi to micro HDMI converter. Whenever i put the micro hdmi to Odroid XU without powering it up, the red power led begins to blink very fast but the brightness is so low

After powering up, red led gets normal (constant red and bright) but the screen flickers for less than a second, i mean like the picture below (an example) but it's worst than that.
http://www.moeside.net/weblog/wp-conten ... 030008.jpg

Then screen goes black. Blue led keeps blinking.

And while i was trying to edit boot.ini, i corrupted it:

This is not an LED TV, but for those who need a barebones LCD panel for mounting in a custom enclosure (e.g. for ODROID-based laptop projects), I can confirm that the following works with the XU4:

1st Generation iPad 9.7" LCD replacement panel, model number LP097X02-SLA3:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271465359505

I am using it with this custom HDMI controller board (and the standard 1024x768 config):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371017518471

It should work with all of these model numbers:
LP097X02-SLA1
LP097X02-SLA2
LP097X02-SLA3
LP097X02-SLAA
LP097X02-SLN1
LP097X02-SLN2

So what's the deal here with this post? It looks like the EDID parsing isn't working on all monitors. I have a couple old ones that don't work with Raspberry Pis or my Rock64. But if you're not moving things around a lot you can manually set a video mode on both. It's good to know about it ahead because otherwise there may be no video on the first boot. Pi uses /boot/config.txt, with the Rock64 you need to put the EDID data for the mode you want into a file, only some modes work, that's ugly. If you know what to do ahead of time you can mount the SD on another machine and edit the config. I have my image file, not the SD I'm going to use yet.

If you check when the thread was started, this was a LONG time ago, at a time where EDID was new to ODROIDs from that era.
The N2 (which you ordered) has a /boot/boot.ini file (similar to the /boot/config.txt of the RPi) where you can configure monitor specific settings.
You can take a look at it here: https://github.com/mdrjr/n2_bootini/blo ... r/boot.ini

OK, thanks, perfect, I can get my video mode set ahead of time. I'll probably start this off on an 11 year old Dell monitor which not much reads correctly. There are different EDID versions and it never occurs to people writing code that the monitor may be 10 years old or more.

Got it, the EDID works fine on this monitor, I'm on it now. The monitor is a Dell S2409Wb.
