New Case Design

Post by caiannello » Sat Jan 19, 2019 4:36 am

Hi Everybody.

I designed and printed a new case that I'm proud of. (Attached) I was going for a compact design with M.2 SSD and RAM. There's room in there for a little 6mm fan, but it doesn't seem necessary. The print is in three pieces and one of them requires gluing. If there is enough interest, I can post the files somewhere like Thingiverse,

Cheers,
Craig

Please do post them. I really like this case!

I would like to mod it so there is room from a single 2.5" HDD somewhere. My H2 configuration is M.2 SDD + 1 SATA HDD.

Very nice, I like how you integrated the power and reset.

Attached is the project file for Sketchup 17.2, and STL files for printing.

Parts needed:
4 M3 screws (10mm)
4 Plastic Hex Standoffs (38mm x 7mm, Schurter 9633.8300)
4 Adhesive rubber feet

I glued port-plate to lid using epoxy. I glued standoffs into receptacles on lid also. I taped the button faces into the lid while installing the board.

Sources of hex standoffs:

Craig

I don't know where you are located, and this might sound weird but if you need access to a 3d printer try your local library.
A lot of public libraries are worried about staying relevant, and have invested in new technology like 3d printers.

Beautiful case design.
I wonder if anybody is thinking on a "stripped", "barebone" case, so the cooling of the H2 will be better. As long as the H2 was designed to work very well without fan, let's help it to accomplish its work (without fan).
Considering vertical surfaces dissipate heat better than horizontal ones, it could also be good if it is vertical, and in such a way that the H2 inside has the "correct" orientation, in such a way that the air flows easily thru the heat dissipator).
And other pluses: case able to contain a 2,5 disc and easily open and close.
