GO-Play quicksave and more - testversion (GPN19)

Unread post by pelle7 » Sun Jun 02, 2019 4:36 am

Hello,

greetings from GPN19 in karlsruhe. :-) https://entropia.de/GPN19/en

I wanted to test and experiment with building the GO-Play firmware.

I really wanted a quicksave feature within the emulators. I tried to keep it in memory but finally I decided to save it on the SD-card.

Additionally:
* Speedup can be toggled (Someone at the GPN19 told me, he liked a speedup feature for Pokémon)

On the release page the keys are defined:

The emulators won't start for me, this is the log:

Code: Select all

E (348) spiram: Expected 4096KiB chip but found 8192KiB chip. Bailing out..
E (355) cpu_start: Failed to init external RAM!
I think Odroid switched WROVER module at some point and some GO have 4MB chips and some have 8MB chips.

In make menuconfig you're better to set:
Component config -> ESP32 specific -> SPI RAM config -> Type of SPI RAM -> Auto-detect
And disable "Enable bank switching for >4MiB external RAM" to avoid wasting RAM.

Thank you for the information. I have applied both options to the three makefiles. I could could successfully execute the emulators on my device.

The binary on github is updated.

Best regards,

Pelle

What version of ESP-IDF do I need to compile this?

Is the Colorpalet switch integrated?
Is the "better" rendering integrated?
Like in Go-Play Super

Is it possible to add more speed steps?

Thanks! I love the speed steps, it makes playing pokemon or zelda so much more enjoyable :)

I would suggest you incorporate the better rendering as suggested by ripper121. It drastically reduce the screen tearing.

Triforce also has it: viewtopic.php?f=159&t=34046

I used the branch 'release/v3.2-odroid' on 'https://github.com/OtherCrashOverride/esp-idf.git'.

Ok, this works great! Only two caveats.

1. In the volume menu, both left and right on the dpad increment the selected option up 1, it would be good if Left could decrease the value by 1 instead of being the same function as dpad Right.

2. You've set the default volume to 1, but it doesnt save current volume setting and resets volume to 1 even if you quit a game and go back into it.

Will test further and come back.

Hey,

I've been discussing the options for RTC information to be integrated into the GO's firmware (here: viewtopic.php?f=159&t=35507) and your firmware came up as the only one actively being developed

Do you have any thoughts on a RTC prompt for ROM startup that may work around the ODROID limitations?

I will adjust it, thank you for the feedback
