Problems with Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS Edition for ODROID SBC by @meveric

Unread post by Gaudi » Fri Jun 21, 2019 1:22 am

Since I just restore original backup image by meveric
I did sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade
right after every single

Code: Select all

updates/upgrades
finished I did

Code: Select all

do-release-upgrade
and everything went as it should be.
But now, when I have

Code: Select all

Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.8.13.30 armv7l)
, I'm getting dependencies problem that avoid next packages update
Here is the screenshot:

Image

And then, if I'm executing command

Code: Select all

sudo apt upgrade
, I'm getting 2 dependencies problems:

How to solve this problem?

PS
I'm new to linux, so please don't judge me too much.

As far as I remember systemd-shim has been removed from 18.04 and is a left-over. Try purging it,

Dear mad_ady,
I'm very noob in linux.

So please, if it is not difficult, can you explain how exactly to do that?

Vielen Dank, Meveric !

I've just deleted this - /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service.bak
Because I think its useless now.

And - will it be helpful for community if I will publish a final image of SDcard with all updates applied? What do you think?

I'm not sure... Ubuntu 18.04 might be to high for the Kernel that runs on the U3.
You should observe /var/log/syslog
I think you will see some entries about missing syscalls, which is one of the reasons I haven't published a Debian Stretch image for the Exynos 4 series.

Excuse me for the off-topic question in this thread.

I would like to create LAMP Odroid U3 server for wordpress site.

Which version of ubuntu server do you recommend for this type of Odroid U3 usage?

And is it possible to update kernel? If yes - how difficult it actually is?

Going with the latest ubuntu is great security-wise. I wouldn't worry too much about missing syscalls (probably used by systemd) as long as your programs run fine.
You can search the forum for mainline kernel for u3 and see what works and what doesn't. I expect most things will work for a server role.
