Android TV ATV ?
Will there be an Android TV image available for this board?
I am not concerned about netflix/amazon HD/4k licencing, i use the apps on my tv for those, in my case i want a rooted android tv as media center with gigabit lan and usb 3.0 hdds attached to share via samba.
Any prospects i can make use of this board like that in the near-ish future?

I don't see it happening officially, but perhaps we will see a port.
They have their hands full with Pie currently.

and what are the prospects for unofficial 3rd party roms (e.g. from fraktabs etc), id like to have some kind of box soon because i desperately need to get my external usb 3.0 drive into (gigabit)lan, i guess getting a generic s905x2 box is a safer bet then :/

Re: Android TV ATV ?
Well we have a member who does a LineageOS ATV build for the XU4 and I believe he has an N2, I don't know if he will be doing a build or not.
Other than him I don't know if anyone else doing Android builds for Odroid devices.
Unless you need 4K the XU4 works great with LineageOS ATV.

The people who own a N2 right now got is as engineering sample and currently there is no way to ordner one for normal customers or do i get this wrong?

Until March correct. We all have pre-launch devices that may be a bit different than the production model.

Re: Android TV ATV ?
For Android TV, HK internally has some different ideas that it's worth support or not since Android on ODROID itself works like a TV already for many users. Many Android TV gives a different UX but if there is less support for Android TV on ODROID is likely identical to generic Android. We are thinking of trying to build the Android TV but it would be a bit a low priority at least not before the end of March since we do have many tasks to figure out to make ODROID be stable and support generic features.

I see, if there is an opportunity for me to buy an N2 and someone needs a tester for an ATV build im happy to help!
p.s. as for "Android on ODROID itself works like a TV already", for my scenario it isnt since there are a lot of android TV apps that i have become reliant on for my home multimedia use and as far as i know Android TV Pie is viable and growing os in 2019 (and in my case im not depending on widevine lvl 1).

Oh...I see...Would you mind let me know what are your use case and apps what you are willing to use on ATV? Is there any use of TV tuner what you are willing to do?boxz0rd40k wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 9:43 pmI see, if there is an opportunity for me to buy an N2 and someone needs a tester for an ATV build im happy to help!

I use an ATSC tuner tobetter. You are interested in doing a ATV build?
I love my TV which has ATV built in but they stopped supporting it since LeEco pulled out of the US market.

LeEco is the vendor of your 4k TV in the living room if I remember correctly.

Re: Android TV ATV ?
LeEco makes great TVs, the SoC (Mstar 6a938) inside it is more powerful than any other ATV (actual TV). Their software support was always lacking a bit.tobetter wrote:LeEco is the vendor of your 4k TV in the living room if I remember correctly.I am not sure the value of running ATV on ODROID and have a bit of concerning more support rather than generic Android.
I wish there was a way to do a hybrid ATV + Android build that you could switch interfaces since ATV is limited in some ways. I understand why you are hesitant about it.
Using Android with a remote (even with air mouse) is a pain on TVs, ATV is nice with a regular remote and makes a lot more sense on a TV.

This makes sense and that's the major reason for one who wants ATV.

Re: Android TV ATV ?
Some of the ATV apps i am using beside videostreaming apps are: NordVPN ATV app, Digdroid Emulator Frontend for ATV and Kodi.
If you are interessted in testing of "Live TV" tuner apps of some sort, id be happy to test them eventhough i mostly use national (german) and international (BBC/PBS) public television apps for video on demand and live tv streaming.
Further do i want to use SAMBADROID (or similar), to share the external USB 3.0 HDD that id like to attach to the ONDROID N2.
The HDD contains my UHD HDR Blu-ray ISOs that require very high transfer rates to 1. play without stutter/caching and 2. be conviniently transfered onto the HDD via LAN from the PC where i rip my Blu-rays.
So in this Case the ONDROID N2 would be the minimalistic center of a little 4K hometheatre wich would be very attractive because beside some S905x2 boxes there are few afforable and open solutions that can handle the playback of huge uncompressed 4K blu-ray isos reliably + offer USB 3.0 and gigabitlan.
Additionally i am using ATV for Videogame Emulators like RetroArch etc therefore i have a collection of controllers that i can test with the box, (Dualshock 4, 8bitdo SFC30 pro, 8bitdo SFC30, Xiaomi Bluetooth Controller).
The Remote id like to use would be the "MINIX NEO A3" for Android + my Samsung TV remote (+ i have a collection of bluetooth keyboards that i could test).

Re: Android TV ATV ?
I dont know how reliable any of this is but according to... google, Android TV will be a viable and growing plattform in the comming years

Besides, the N2 would be kind of the strongest ATV box out there right now specwise, competing with the nvidia shield at less than half the price, pretty attractive imho.

Hey voodik,
can you allready tell if it will be possible to play videos in 4k@60p 10Bit color with your build?

As long as hardware acceleration works it will work.

Re: Android TV ATV ?
According to the datasheet of S922X, it can support HDR10 and have been tested a couple of video clips and Youtube with HDR display. When they are tested with LG HDR display, it shows an HDR mark on the right top corner for a couple of seconds.

True, don't know why couple of lines are disappeared from my last reply.rooted wrote:10bit color and HDR10 are different but the N2 supports both.
10bit support can be presented as "Deep color" on the Android of ODROID-N2 and my vision does not work with it.

Re: Android TV ATV ?
I see, its probably no general problem anyway i am just asking because i made the experience that the custom rom i am using for the s905x2 did not offer 10bit in the options (with the same cable i use with my mibox3 where i do have 10bit 420 as option), and i am a bit frustrated about the situation where i have one box with nice hardware (s905x2) and rooted but buggy makeshift ATV and the MiBox3 that has a reasobably functioning ATV (latest beta even has auto framerate switching) but is not rootable (+no usb3.0/gigabitlan). Id rather ditch them both for one box that does the job :X

Re: Android TV ATV ?
An ATV option would be a strong selling point for HK and the N2 -- both to individuals and operators.
https://9to5google.com/2019/03/28/andro ... or-growth/
I'm hopeful Android TV on N2 (amlogic) won't have the gpu idiosyncrasies that lineage 14.1/15.1 + ATV had on the XU4 (exynos) with Youtube.
I think in 15.1 we had to turn off certain hardware accelerated decoding so Youtube would work properly making 14.1 the better more stable option for me personally.
Don't get me wrong, the ATV work on the XU4 was awesome (very appreciative), but I think a collaborative effort could make the N2 even better!
