Hooking up the boom bonnet to the VU7A speakers

Post by mad_ady »

I'd like to use the VU7A speakers with the boom bonnet, but the boom bonnet speakers have two 2pin connectors while the vu7a speakers have a larger 4 pin connector. I could use jumper wires to make an adapter - question is - is it ok electrically?
Should I hook up the 4 wires to a 3.5" audio jack instead? That would be more versatile... Would I get less power if I went the 3.5" way?
Thanks!

It should be fine electrically.

Look at the rear side of the VU7A. The speaker connector shows R-,R+.L+,L-.

Thanks! What if I do something like here: https://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/thre ... io.109590/ and connect L- and R- to a headphone jack ground (and the + to the other connectors) - they would work as a regular 3.5" stereo device, right? In terms of power output - would they be quieter on the vu7's audio jack and the boom bonnet's compared to the dedicated audio pins? Meaning the audio jack is designed only for headphones and has an attenuator built-in?

The advantage of going the headphone jack way is I could use them on my H2 too (it uses HDMI to DVI so no audio).

I guess @phaseshifter might know more about this.

Thanks!

Relatively higher powered D-Class PWM speaker driving circuit might break your headphone actuators or other audio amplifiers.
Line-out driving circuit in the N2 is very different from a generic D-class speaker amplifier.
