HC2 slowing down after a couple weeks of use

Unread post by nuclear898 » Fri May 24, 2019 6:54 pm

Have the Odroid Home Cloud 2 for about 2 months now. I run Ubuntu 18.04 minimal on it from here https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/os_i ... buntu_4.14
, and I use it solely for samba server, qbittorent and pi-hole. All of these work without issues, until after about 2-3 weeks everything slows down immensely, it takes a couple minutes to login through putty, the web interfaces are extremely slow, samba access through my windows desktop is extremely slow. I formatted the SD card the first time it happened and reinstalled everything, and all was fine again for 2-3 weeks until a few days ago it happened again. I restarted the device a few times by unplugging the power, and now the web interfaces work fast again but I can no longer login to the samba share, it says the user has no access. My root/user login through putty stopped working as well, giving me "Access denied", yeah I'm typing my password correctly. qbittorrent web UI still works, and so does pihole but it cannot connect to the API and the DNS resolver is down: https://imgur.com/a/3yD2FPu

my only option at this point is to reinstall everything again, because I cannot even access it through ssh. But I have no idea how or why this happens. I have a 16GB microSD card installed in it and a 4TB Seagate Ironwolf HDD.

Does anyone have the slightest idea of what might be happening?
Help is greatly appreciated!

You need something like munin or mynetdata to monitor resource usage over time. Or log in via ssh when it's slow and use top/atop/iotop to see where the holdup is.

I checked the SD card in windows and the main partition still has 4+ gb free so it shouldnt be a problem.

I am currently installing ubuntu on virtualbox on my desktop to see if I can access the files and maybe find something in some logs. Where should I be looking for the logs? I am not that advanced with linux/ubuntu.

var/log/syslog should be a right file. But it could be erased once the system boots again probably.

Anyway, it is worth to check the SD card space on a (virtual) Linux PC.
