C1+, Ubuntu 18.04 USB problem

Unread post by brk » Tue May 14, 2019 12:31 am

Hello All,
We are using many C1+s with Ubuntu 14.04 without any major problem.
But recently due to a driver problem with a multitouch hdmi screen, we decided to use Ubuntu 18.04 instead of 14.04.
Although driver problem seems to be solved we have another problem.

When we use the C1+ with usb mouse and keyboard and without the multitouch screen (with ordinary hdmi screen) every now and then keyboard problems occur,
i.e., a single press to a key produces many inputs as if the key is pressed continuously.

I remember the same problem earlier on Ubuntu 14.04 but it was solved.
Any suggestions for Ubuntu 18.04

PS: same C1+ device with the same screen, keyboard, mouse and power supply with Ubuntu 14.04 there is no problem.

Best regrds,
Burak...

Can you check whether the CPU governor mode is performance or not?

it is interactive:

odroid@odroid:~$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

Changing cpu governor to performance seems to solve the usb keyboard problem, thank you for the hint.
Meanwhile we have another problem that i hoped would be solved by the cpu governor change but it still exists:
windows on the screen is moved/dragged with some delay.

/media/boot/boot.ini file sets the followings:
resolution 1080p
# HDMI DVI Mode Configuration
setenv vout_mode "hdmi"
# HDMI BPP Mode
setenv m_bpp "32"
setenv vpu "1"

any suggestions for this screen delay issue would be very much appreciated.
thanks.

Try other window compositor options in Mate desktop tweaks.
As far as I remember, Marco (No compositor) or Metacity (No compositor) showed better performance.

BTW, what do you want to make with C1+?

Changed to Marco (No compositor) and a few other tweaks, now the screen is reasonable.
Thank you very much for the feedback.

We are using C1+s mainly as time and attendance, access control and payment terminals.

Best regards.

Although everything works well for our development C1+ which has 128 Gigs of eMMC, our other C1+ devices hangs after we change the cpu governer to performance.
These C1+s all have 8 Gigs of eMMC.
Blue led turns off completely after afew minutes.

Any idea?

Best regards

If you supply the system power via DC barrel jack instead of the micro-USB port, remove the J8.
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-c1/hardw ... wer_enable

Do you have a DMM to measure the voltage?
If yes, check the system 5.0V rail in the 40pin header.
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-c1/hardw ... connectors
It must be stable at 4.8~5.2V in the booting process.

Do you have a USB-UART kit to monitor the system status?

J8 is not connected.
5.0V rail seems to be ok when measured with DMM but to be 100% sure i will try to measure the voltage level with a scope (but later, don't have time to setup scope etc now)
It seems that the cpu cores are hanging.

As far as (https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-c1/os_images/ubuntu/v3.0) Performance should be the default governor, but it is set to interactive in ubuntu-18.04.1-mate-odroid-c1-20180726.img.
Am i correct?

I also tried to change the max freq in boot.ini but when 1824000 is set C1+ hangs when it needs to ramp up to max freq.

Is there a power and/or other hardware/software problem i don't know.

Best regards.

Some system updates might change the default governor setting and we have to manually configure the governor.
My board was stably working at 1.6Ghz only while some other people could run it at 1.8Ghz.
So the overclocking doesn't work for all the C1 boards because the SoC vendor guarantee only 1.5Ghz.
Keep using 1.5Ghz first until you find a root cause of the system hangs.
