The http://www.hardkernel.com website is down. Get "403 Forbidden nginx" message. Any idea on when it will be back online?

I can access it now.
Try other browser or your smartphone.
Or remove cache.

Yes, for me too. Made in Firefox 'Forget about this side' and in Chromium deleted everything, all cache and cookies and history...

I can't access it either. I tried it with Chromium and Firefox from various Linux based computers (amd64, arm64, armhf) but all show the same issue. Cleaning the caches didn't make a difference. However, accessing it from my Android phone works from the same network. Accessing the web site from a VirtualBox based Windows machine works with Chrome. Hope this gives some hints.

The same issue occurs when using Firefox in Private Mode (even after cleaning all caches and cookies). Access with a QtWebEngine based browser (as being part of my eric6 IDE) works (all on the same PC with the same Kubuntu 19.04).

Same here, forbidden 403. I tried a bunch of things including clearing cache, disabling private settings, blockers etc to no avail. :( FYI, I don't know if it is relevant but yesterday while surfing the web, Mozilla disabled my add-on's and presented a message saying that they were now enforcing their standing requirement since version 57 (if I remember correctly) requiring "extension signing". They also presented the following work around:

"Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR), Firefox Developer Edition and Nightly versions of Firefox will allow you to override the setting to enforce the extension signing requirement, by changing the preference xpinstall.signatures.required to false in the Firefox Configuration Editor (about:config page). To override the language pack signing requirement, you would set the preference extensions.langpacks.signatures.required to false. There are also special unbranded versions of Firefox that allow this override. See the MozillaWiki article, Add-ons/Extension Signing for more information."

<rant>
I was not happy with their actions, damn companies! Makes me want to look for a different browser now. I understand their policy but they could have done it a different way. Like informing me and not automatically changing my settings. Makes me wonder what else they did or have been doing without my consent.
</end-rant>

I can reproduce it too on Firefox 66.0.3 on Ubuntu. Might be related to their certificate expired: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ad ... ll-firefox that messes up addons (also new addons can't be downloaded). Should test with Firefox 66.0.4 which should fix it, though it hasn't landed yet in ubuntu...

Edit: Nope - Chromium fails with HTTP 403 as well from the same PC, so it's not only firefox. Will try to do a packet capture.

Ok, the packet capture (after decyrpting the SSL traffic) shows that asking for https://hardkernel.com you get a HTTP 301 with redirect to https://www.hardkernel.com/ and the subsequent request results in a HTTP 403 forbidden (both for the page /, and for the favicon). The headers my browser is sending (Chromium) are:

Code: Select all

        [Header Count: 9]
        Header: :method: GET
        Header: :authority: www.hardkernel.com
        Header: :scheme: https
        Header: :path: /
        Header: upgrade-insecure-requests: 1
        Header: user-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/73.0.3683.86 Chrome/73.0.3683.86 Safari/537.36
        Header: accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,image/webp,image/apng,*/*;q=0.8
        Header: accept-encoding: gzip, deflate, br
        Header: accept-language: en-US,en;q=0.9,ro;q=0.8
The reply is:

Code: Select all

        [Header Count: 6]
        Header: :status: 403 Forbidden
        Header: server: nginx
        Header: date: Mon, 06 May 2019 07:15:24 GMT
        Header: content-type: text/html
        Header: vary: Accept-Encoding
        Header: content-encoding: gzip
If I ask with curl from the same system for curl --trace-ascii trace.ascii https://www.hardkernel.com/ it works:

Code: Select all

....
=> Send header, 80 bytes (0x50)
0000: GET / HTTP/2

What I see different is that the browser doesn't send Host: www.hardkernel.com but sends several headers like :authority: www.hardkernel.com which might not be understood by the load balancer in front of the web server. I haven't used HTTP/2 in production, so I'm not sure what the spec says about the Host header. I know it is used to identify between multiple virtual servers in apache, so it's important...

Ok, I disabled HTTP/2 in chrome with --disable-http2 and retried and it still generates 403, so it's not HTTP/2 related...

I think I traced the problem to the user agent string. This doesn't work:

Code: Select all

curl --trace-ascii trace.ascii --header "Host: www.hardkernel.com" --header "Connection: keep-alive" --header "Upgrade-insecure-Requests: 1" --header "User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/73.0.3683.86 Chrome/73.0.3683.86 Safari/537.36" --header "Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,image/webp,image/apng,*/*;q=0.8" --header "Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate, br" --header "Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.9,ro;q=0.8" -o /dev/null  https://www.hardkernel.com/
while this works (it is sent with a default user agent User-Agent: curl/7.58.0):

Code: Select all

curl --trace-ascii trace.ascii --header "Host: www.hardkernel.com" --header "Connection: keep-alive" --header "Upgrade-insecure-Requests: 1"  --header "Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,image/webp,image/apng,*/*;q=0.8" --header "Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate, br" --header "Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.9,ro;q=0.8" -o /dev/null  https://www.hardkernel.com/
Any idea what user agent strings your systems are sending? There could be something parsing them on the server side and drawing the wrong conclusion.

I could reproduce the issue with Firefox 66.0.3 on my H2 Ubuntu 19.04.
We will check with Chromium too.

We found a problem in the firewall configuration.
We've fixed it. I tested on Firefox and there was no issue.
Please let me know your test result.

@odroid: may I ask what the problem was (for my own curiosity)? Was it related to user agent, or was it something else?
