Android working out of the box

Unread post by iskoko » Mon Apr 29, 2019 6:11 pm

Hello,

I am planning to purchase N2 with Android, Wifi and GPS modules.
Will it work out-of-the-box or some configuration is required on our end?
Essentially, I am looking for an out-of-the-box solution where I can use Android (download our mobile app) without configuring something.

Thanks!

If you use our official WiFi and GPS modules, it will work out of the box.

Right.

But you may need an ADB connection to download your own app.

If your app is available in Google play store, you have to install it with this guide.

It is an .apk file that I download via Beta Crashylitics app. That is ok?
But I will need to download google play services anyway.

We can't guarantee that since I've never heard about it.
If you are not an app developer, you may meet a compatibility problem you can't resolve by yourself.
You have to buy another Android device if you don't know how to debug the application nor system.

Google Maps app works on ODROID-N2 Android out of the box.
But it is very hard know why/when a specific app doesn't work.

Ok, got it.
But your Android module is a standard release, right?

No. There is no "true standard" in the Android OS world.
Samsung, Huawei , Xiaomi, LG and other vendors have their own standard.
We just hope all of them should have a single fully compatible Android API level 28.
But it is not true.

Android on N2 is far from OOB.
You have to install all things you need starting at google play, wait a day to accept your code, etc.

Do you maybe have a suggestion, something simpler?
Thanks!

N2 must be okayish. Installing google play was very simple and there was no pain. what do you want to make? Something like a gps navigation for a large boat sailing? share your target gps app links for testing by other users.

We have our own app (apk) which uses GPS module. And we just need Android OS with Google Play.
So Google play installation is simple?

Since ODROID is not Android certified device, your device must be registered and activated by Google once OpenGapps is installed. The activation time of your device would be various, maybe an hour or a day.
