When I upgraded to 4.14.111+ my CloudShell 1 display will only display solid white.

Do you mean the SPI LCD driver has an issue?

I haven't been able to dig into it, the only change I made was the kernel upgrade and the display was working correctly before the update.

I am running cloudshell-nmon, upon reboot the display is solid white.

I wanted to write something about this yesterday but got sidetracked.
I only saw one commit that looked suspicious something about video backlight: drivers/video/backlight/pwm_bl.c
Not sure if this is related or not though.
The diff is rather long from 107 to 111 so it's hard to find a commit that could have caused this.

Whenever odroid, I'm in no rush. I'm barely home anymore.

I have tested to check.

LCD works on my CloudShell 2 with 4.14.111 kernel.

This is my /etc/modules.

Code: Select all

spi-s3c64xx
spidev
fbtft_device
and /etc/modprobe.d/odroid-cloudshell.conf

Code: Select all

options fbtft_device name=hktft9340 busnum=1 rotate=270 speed=35000000

I can confirm cloudshell 2 is working normal.
I haven't had time to test with Cloudshell 1 yet, as one is running on Kernel 3.10 and the other is "constantly" busy.

    @AreaScout,
boot.ini might be changed. Check which DTB is being loaded.

No, boot.ini is ok and right dtb is loaded, strange I did a kernel update, reboot, and it didn't work anymore

can you check the size of /boot/uInitrd and /boot/uInitrd-4.14.111+ and compare if they actually match?
I now had it twice that after the update the uInitrd file was created properly but not copied over.
Maybe that is causing the issues you see, although in that case it might stop booting completely.

I have checked it, it has the same size so that is not the cause, I will try to go back one kernel version and see if it starts working again, maybe a commit broke it ...

I confirm this is working, the question is why did my odroid-cloudshell.conf get changed.

    The contents were:

    Code: Select all

    options fbtft_device name=hktft9340 busnum=1 rotate=270

And I didn't change it, the speed wasn't originally needed?

    *Edit*
I looked at my CloudShell 2 and the speed isn't there, so defining the speed hasn't been necessary until now.
