My N2 board problem -- maybe about to die

Post by moutazsalem » Mon Apr 15, 2019 7:39 am

Hello,

i received my N2 board (4GB Model), then installed Android 9, it was working fine on my PC monitor as well as the TV.
turned it off using Android UI, after a couple of hours, i turned it on again by unplugging the power jack and inserting it back.

then i noticed that the red led is not turning on, so i thought there might be power problem, but right then i noticed that the blue led started flashing (still the red led is off) and no signal on the TV.
i unplugged it from the TV and connected to to my PC (still no red led, only blue blinking) and i was able to get a signal on my PC screen, then i tried to use my keyboard (which was working perfectly) but no power signal on the keyboard.

i have tried all 4 USBs, none worked, then i switched to SPI mode and i could see petitboot but again no power on the 4 USBs.
note that i use the power adapter that came with the N2

can you please help?

@moutazsalem, could you try to run lsusb when ODROID boot and if you can run Android terminal?
Which version of Android 9 is installed?

Before we decide whether you need RMA, could you please test one more thing on your end for me?
I've sent you a PM and sorry for the inconvenience...

Since we've done some work in order to indicate the problem for sure before RMA and it does not help to make your ODROID-N2 work, please drop an email to odroid at hardkernel dot com with the link of this thread and any proof you purchase from Hardkernel. I am going to help to proceed when your request is registered.

Thank you.

Hi, sorry for the delay.
Your board is delivered and I had inspected to find out the problem. Apparently, what I've seen is that your board has defected at 5V DC rail for some reason and this leads the peripherals are not working properly. I am checking what's next for you, repair or replacement.

Please let me update you late today or tomorrow.

Thank you.

@Billy65cava, what's the model of your display?
Do you know which version of Petitboot is running?
If it's not the version 20191129, please update it with the one,

Have you tried to place the selector switch to SPI while spiboot.img is copied to your SD card and do power cycle?
If this does not work, can you try the Recovery Image that completely refreshes the SPI flash memory?

good evening, I did all the possible tests but the odroid-n2 does not work. I tried to upgrade and also the recovery for petitboot, even on different sd cards, but the result is always the same. I followed all the steps to the letter but it doesn't work. starting from the beginning I had tried batocera and it worked, then I tried corelec and it worked, also the connection with filezilla no problem. corelec asked me to put a password and I did it. I removed corelec and put back batocera, which are on two different sd cards, and nothing worked anymore. I would just like to be a satisfied customer, please help.

Have you tried to boot without Petitboot?
Flip the boot selection switch to MMC and put your any uSD, do a power cycle.
If the screen does not come, please try another TV as well with Petitboot and without Petitboot.

good evening, I tried on another monitor, with different sd cards, with corelec and with batocera, with the selector on spi and mmd, without spiboot and with spiboot upgrade and recovery, the result is always the same, like the first photo. But possible that there is no keyboard command to start the odroid? I wonder if I have a guarantee on this product which I would say defective to say the least, I received it two weeks ago and it is impossible to use it, let me know, thanks

Please do the test with Hardkernel's Ubuntu Mate image and CoreELEC after flashing them to SD card, and try to boot without the Petitboot after flipping the boot select switch to MMC in order to check if your N2 defects. If the blue LED flashes and USB keyboard/mouse work, hardware may not be a problem.
