Very cool!

Is this what fixed the ES window not refreshing when exiting some emulators?

https://github.com/batocera-linux/batoc ... 1b8731f02b

BTW exiting the N64 emulator by HK+start worked for me

I tested it a bit, but didn't had time to do a proper test, I could exit from the N64 emulator by using special+start, and I loaded a few games, all worked perfectly :)

I did notice the image tearing of ES after returning from an emulator, not sure why it does that (it does it EmuELEC as well)

will do a proper test with the updated image tonight :) thanks for sharing!

We're having the same ES tearing issue on the RetroArena RetroPie fork for the n2.

Htop shows one cpu staying slammed at 80-100% It will periodically switch which CPU is slammed.

@sikotik ok i confirm the bug. not that easy to reproduce while it is not always. however, note that this is always es at 100% even when it is in pause mode and that in game. thus, i would tell the bug is related to es (but not only).

it might be a combination of kernel config + ES on kernel 4x?

I kinda found a workaround (by mistake) based on the fix you found out for batocera, but I use fbterm to open and close the FB, tearing has been reduced a LOT and the FB does not freeze anymore.

I use this patch, based on yours. https://github.com/shantigilbert/CoreEL ... zing.patch

that runs this (because chvt 1 was not doing anything for me :( ) https://github.com/shantigilbert/CoreEL ... s/pixel.sh just to open the FB

and since I start games with a script I have this at the end (so before it goes back to ES)

Code: Select all

fbterm chvt 1 < /dev/tty1 &
but chvt 1 could be replaced by anything really even "echo hi" the idea is just to open and close the FB

this is what "fixed" the issue for me. it might be overdoing it, but so far its working

note that i found chvt 2; chvt 1 because i heard sound, but not see the image, thus, while there are 4 framebuffers, and each one mapped on an other tty.
i took printscreen of the 4 framebuffers with fbdump and notice that the image is always printed in fb0, but never refreshed. finally i pressed ctrl+alt+f2 at keyboard to see if the issue was not /proc/fb for the association tty<->fb, and "by mistake", i notice that going back to tty1 via ctrl+alt+f1 give me back the image+the sound.
i wanted to disable other framebuffers to check if multiple framebuffer is not around the bug, but i didn't manage successfully to do it.

After more testing it seems my "workaround" only reduces tearing, but it will eventually come back after a while :/
