STTY is the Linux utility to configure serial communications via the OS. As far as Android not being Linux, I think that is debatable, but you're right that it's certainly not a 1:1 port of linux.

STTY is available on the stock Odroid XU4 ROM (running Android 4.4.4 I believe) but LineageOS doesn't appear to have it. So I'm trying to find a way to configure Serial coms in LineageOS

Android is a Java platform running on top of the Linux kernel with low level hardware hooks, it's one of those "the Linux kernel is not Linux" things.

Have you tried installing busybox? It's included there.

I haven't tried that yet. If I install busybox, do I get it's bundled tools at the command line? Or do I have to do something extra?

Great! I installed a version of busybox and now have STTY :) Now I just need to figure out why a library I'm using doesn't like the newer android version. But that's another problem for another day :-P

Thanks for the help

Thank you, this fixed it! In case anyone comes here with the same question, you don't need to rebuild android or anything. Just go to /system/build.prop on the android itself.

Firstly, thanks Voodik for the great images. My colleagues and I are glad to be able to have an updated android version on our devices. I am a kernel guy so I am a bit lost at trying to compile the android source. The instructions

Code: Select all

$ repo init -u git://github.com/voodik/android.git -b cm-14.1_5422
$ repo sync
$ ./build.sh odroidxu3
resulting in a number of errors, such as the zconf files being generated with a _shipped suffix so they cannot be found by other files. This problem isn't apparent if I build just the kernel. Which makes me think some sort of crucial step is missing or some sort of config as the Hardkernel Android 4.4.4 builds no problems. Thanks again for the great images.

Cheers

No worries. I know that problem. I seem to have android building (at about 16% at the moment) on both an Ubuntu based system and now on my Arch work computer, was some missing libraries. But I am having the problem that when I recompile the kernel some of the wireless drivers seem to be missing. I was playing around with the config yesterday and pushing the modules via adb but i didn't have any luck as wpa_supplicant was crashing constantly. Did you encounter this problem? I've not got much experience with creating new configs for systems. Something I am keen to learn though. Thanks for the reply!

to make kernel
run in kernel directory

Code: Select all

make mrproper
make odroidxu3_defconfig
make menuconfig
BTW, i found something like internet and merged cm-14.1 sources.
repo sync and build again.

P.S.
for android building you will need at least 8GB RAM maybe more.

I have gotten the entire repo to build. kernel was already building on it's own. Was some missing libraries because I am on an Arch system and the error messages were quite terrible :P I also needed to patch three files from the cm14.1 branch, some missing SQLite methods for an app and a provider.

Building just the standalone kernel with the defconfig, as well as the kernel built with Android don't work 100%. The stand along built by doing exactly

Code: Select all

make mrproper
make odroidxu3_defconfig

works but without full support for things like wifi dongles, which your images have. Which makes me thing that you have done some configuring in the menuconfig (if yes, do you know what exactly?). I can get the driver modules compiled and present in the kernel but wpa_supplicant crashes constantly so I get no network connectivity. The kernel (

Code: Select all

/out/target/product/odroidxu3/kernel
), built by running

Code: Select all

./build.sh odroidxu3
, is the same. While the system.img generated causes a kernel panic

Code: Select all

 7455 [   10.923397] [c4] Failed to execute /init.  Attempting defaults...
 7456 [ 10.931371] [c5] Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/init.txt for guidance.
I have flashed the system image via fastboot

Code: Select all

fastboot flash system system.img
. Some crucial nugget is missing.

I should also mention that I made sure that the kernel was configured for wpa_supplicant (as far as I know) going off of http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/vi ... icant.html

The last of my problems was a vermagic issue as I didn't update the modules with those my system compiled. Last issue to sort through is the system.img causing

Code: Select all

[   11.178888] [c5] devtmpfs: error mounting -2
[   11.182877] [c5] Freeing unused kernel memory: 556K (c0a87000 - c0b12000)
[   11.189495] [c5] Failed to execute /init.  Attempting defaults...
[ 11.197554] [c6] Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/init.txt for guidance.
have you come across this before?

I try to mount my cifs share in terminal:

Code: Select all

su
mount -t cifs -o 'username=xxx,password=xxx,iocharset=utf8' //192.168.1.10/Downloads /data/media/0/Cifsshare
It's ok and I see files in terminal, but my apps don't see files... Why?

Hello,

first: Thanks for the great work again! Buyed you a beer ;)

I maybe have found a bug on this Android version or i missed something.
I have a smaller 1024x600 7" LCD Display. I setted the boot.ini for this resolution and the fitting rotation in the app.
Due too that this display is a bit small (cant buy a bigger one its the only size that fits) i maxed out the text and gui size in the Android options.

But now the 3 Android standard buttons (Back, Home, Tasks) are overlaying each other on the right side? :|
All 3 buttons are in middle of the black underlay. So i cant control anything because i randomly press one of them...

Can anybody help me?

Thank you very much :D

Hi, voodik!
I tried to add sdcard_rw gid/uid to mount option:

Code: Select all

su
mount -t cifs -o 'username=xxx,password=xxx,rw,gid=1015,uid=1015,iocharset=utf8' //192.168.1.10/Downloads /data/media/0/Cifsshare
but it did not help me :( My apps can't see files.
On root privileges I can see my files in "/data/media/0/Cifsshare", but many apps don't use root privileges and they can't see folder "/data/media/0/", they use folder "/storage/emulated/0"

Please try.

Code: Select all

mkdir /data/media/0/mnt
chmod 775 /data/media/0/mnt
chown media_rw:media_rw /data/media/0/mnt
mount -t cifs -o 'username=xxx,password=xxx,rw,gid=1023,uid=1023,iocharset=utf8' //192.168.1.10/Downloads /data/media/0/mnt
Working on Oreo, i will try on Nougat later.
In this case I can see files in "/data/media/0/mnt" (on root), but I don't have folder "mnt" in "storage/emulated/0" and apps don't see this folder... :(
I have clean install of Nougat. I'll wait when you try. Maybe i'm doing something wrong... Thanks!

Just tested with Nougat, everything works. You can force refresh media after mount if your mount folder is empty.

Code: Select all

am broadcast -a android.intent.action.MEDIA_MOUNTED -d file:///sdcard

Hi, voodik!
I tried to do this. And I got folder "mnt" in "/data/media/0/" with my shared files, but in "storage/emulated/0" I got file "mnt" with size=0 (empty file).
Did you test this in the terminal with "su" rules? Or in boot script?

And I have another question: How can I mount my folder at boot?

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I've scoured the internet and haven't been able to turn up a solution. Running Lineage os 14 on an XU4, i would like to do a little bit of overclocking. I installed kernel adiutor, and gave it root access. However, it only lets me pick from a list of preselected speed settings - topping out at 2ghz for the big cores and 1.4ghz for the small cores. Which is what they're set to from the factory anyway. What software do you guys recommend for core overclocking? Or am I missing a key setting or permission somewhere?

The SoC in Xu4 was designed for 1.3ghz/1.8Ghz.
So already 1.4/2 is a bit overclocked you might say.
You can’t go beyond without modifying the kernel sources (no tool to do this for you), but there’s a very high chance the board will crash over 2GHz.

Ah, gotcha, thanks! I'm used to the PC overclocking world, this is my first forray into SBCs and android tinkering.

I Have a usb sound card and the audio is not great, when I record on microphone I can hear hissing in the background. Is their something I can do its using c-media usb sound card, I have tested this on other hardware platforms and I don't get any hissing.

Is there a way I can make the usb sound card the default device? I moved from raspberry pi to get the performance gain from Odroid but the only issue I have is poor audio via usb. I need both out and in from audio. I have turned the audio gain up in the app I am using and this just makes the whole hissing worse.

thanks

Mark

Hello

I have this image installed and I am having an issue with HTML5.

I have a webpage which when opened in Chrome Browser uses HTML5 wonderfully. It is the Blue Iris UI3 webpage.

Inside of an app, imperihome, when I open this webpage, I can not get HTML5. It states that HTML5 depends on the Browser installed.
I have disabled every browser except Chrome (Even Webview), yet still no HTML5 inside imperihome.

This same app, imperihome works correctly on a; Nvidia Shield, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, and even a Fire HD 10 tablet. So I contacted imperihome developers,
and they advised the issue was most likely with this image LineageOS -14.1

Can anyone advise me ??
Thanks

DISREGARD, SEE EDIT - You could install the imperihome app, then you would need to access a blue iris webpage. I can provide you with a external url to my blue iris ui3 page.
Let me know and I will send you the url by PM.

EDIT, It appears that the free version of imperihome will not set a link to a webpage. So maybe you can help by remote desktop? Teamviewer?

Hello to all. I have built Nougat from source, as per the instructions on the wiki, and the generated update.zip file works just fine, when used from the updater. However, I am now trying to create a flash-straight-to-SD card image from it, using as a base the preexisting SD card image, replacing all the files. I am also commenting out the lines that flash system_af and system_ag on boot.ini, since my build only goes up to system_ae. I suppose this is because it does not include the Google stuff and is a bit smaller. Is that right?

In any case, the image when made like that works up to a point, and then reboot-loops. Only three partitions are created. What could I be doing wrong? Should I be using the boot.ini from the wiki? I am using the XU-4, and debugging via fastboot is not feasible for me. Thanks for the help :)

Edit: Oh yeah, when I change the flash routine to simply flashing system.img at 40000000, it seems to work. But weirdly enough, none of the modifications I made to the ROM appear. (These are xml string resources, and some simple changes to PhoneWindoManager.java and PermissionDialog.java)

For example, I changed the constructor of PermissionDialog to:

Code: Select all

public PermissionDialog(Context context, AppOpsService service,
            int code, int uid, String packageName) {
        super(context);

        mContext = context;
        Resources res = context.getResources();

        mService = service;
        mCode = code;
        mPackageName = packageName;
        mUid = uid;
        mOpLabels = res.getTextArray(
            com.android.internal.R.array.app_ops_labels);

        /*BEGIN MOD*/
            mService.notifyOperation(mCode, mUid, mPackageName, AppOpsManager.MODE_ALLOWED,
                true);
            return;

        /*
        [...] ui construction code and all the rest commented out
        */
    }
And still, the dialog appears, as if I did nothing. Even after a make clean and full rebuild. Strings also remain the same. I wonder if system JARs are being cached somewhere, or come prebuilt, and I would have to do something else to rebuild them. Really weird.

(EDIT) this was kind of off-topic and was already solved
