ODROID-xu4 USB disconnect's automatically

Unread post by thohtdelta » Thu Dec 13, 2018 7:28 pm

I'm using an 'ODROID-XU4' with ubuntu mate desktop os. There are 3 usb connections - 4G-dongle(usb 2.0),Camera (usb 3.0), GPS (usb 2.0). The Odroid is powered by 5v Voltage regulator connected to a battery supply. When multiple processes are running on the system, the usb connections get disconnected after a while.
Some of the errors showing in dmesg:

Code: Select all

xhci-hcd xhci-hcd.3.auto: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 2 comp_code 1
xhci-hcd xhci-hcd.3.auto: Looking for event-dma 00000000b6941890 trb-start 00000000b69418a0 trb-end 00000000b69418a0 seg-start
cdc_ether 3-1.1:1.0 eth1: kevent 12 may have been dropped
xhci-hcd xhci-hcd.3.auto: ERROR unknown event type 37
Can someone help me out with this?

You seem to be experiencing a drop in voltage, what are you using to power the device specifically?

The Odroid is powered by a 5VDC 10A DC-DC Power Supply Converter connected to a 24V battery supply .

Can you measure the voltage of the 5Volt rail on 30pin header with a DMM?
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/hard ... connectors

Even you use an 100A PSU, there could be some voltage drop events if your DC cable or DC plug has large internal resistance.
Do you use thick 18 AWG DC cables?

We currently not using the odroid adapter. so, we used 24v battery and 24 to 5v dc to dc converter

The below image is my connection setup from 24v battery to odroid.

The odroid connected power cable is scrapped from odroid adapter.

The wire connections seem to be weak.
Solder the connection parts to reduce the resistance and measure the voltage on the 30pin header.
It must be stable and always higher than 4.8Volt.

I bought an 18 AWG from the local market but couldn't confirm the quality of it. Do you suggest buying the pigtail that's in hardkernel's store? https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/dc-plug ... bly-5-5mm/

If the voltage on 5V rail of 30pin header is always higher than 4.8Volt, your 18-AWG cable and soldering are fine.

Maybe because you are drawing to much current from USB, that's a lot of devices you are connecting and some are high-powered devices, can you try an external powered USB-Hub ?

Here are the maximum current and power USB can generally archive:

USB 2.0 (High-Powered-Port) 4,75–5,25V / 0,5A / 2,5 W
USB 3.0 5V / 0,9A / 4,5 W
