Debian stretch, Chromium issues

Unread post by Kurre » Fri Oct 05, 2018 8:36 pm

Hi.

I installed stretch using this side: viewtopic.php?f=96&t=30552
I choosed the LXDE desktop.
Then Chromium with add of the extensions and links of the libs.

When I try to run Chromium it just flashes a white popup and dies.
From a terminal it says a little bit more:

Code: Select all

can you check if any other 3D applications works?
Install glmark2-es2 and try to run it to determine if hardware acceleration is actually working.
Also there were some issues in the past with LXDE and Debian Stretch, can you try a different DE like MATE for example?
Not sure if it's related, but I had a report on ODROID C2 with issues regarding GPU and LXDE.

Not sure if this is related, but latest stock Chromium on ARM is broken upstream. At least on Debian. 32 or 64bit version or both. Not sure. But here you probably don't use the latest version or?

Chromium comes directly from Debian Stretch repository, I have no part in it, so if it's broken in Debian Stretch repo, it's broken here as well.
if that's the case you can downgrade to a older version:

Code: Select all

apt-get install chromium=63.0.3239.84-1~deb9u1
Edit:
I can confirm that Chromium 69 is currently not working on Debian Stretch, but Chromium 63 works fine, so if you downgrade everything should work again.
You can block the system from updating Chromium by using:

Code: Select all

apt-mark hold chromium
after you downgrade it.
That way Chromium will not update via regular apt-get upgrades until you unblock (unhold) it:

Code: Select all

apt-mark unhold chromium
that way you can wait until someone confirms that a new version is available that actually works.

Thanks meveric and others.
It works now when I downgraded Chromium.

I will keep an eye on the package so when it is OK, I can unmark it.
