I have a new C2 running Ubuntu 16.04 off a newly-purchased Ameridroid Linux eMMC card but am getting upgrade errors as it will not install the Linux headers as described above. The following terminal output shows the setup and results:

first of all you should be careful with the package lists you include, adding Debian Jessie package lists to a Ubuntu image can cause harm to your image, so be careful what you install from there.
If your goal was only to install the Kernel then the meveric-all-C2.list is all you would have needed.
stuzog wrote:I'm wondering why there are two `linux-image-c2` versions, one of which can be upgraded to the other?
I can't answer that, this package comes from HardKernel and you have to ask them about it.

The issue you have here is already in the error messages:

Thanks, @meveric. As I'm just learning Linux, I'm not knowledgeable or confident enough to do that. I'll go back over your instructions to make sure.

Update

Started over, going better. Installed linux-headers-arm64-odroid-c2 OK. But which of the packages in your C2 repository /meveric/dists/all/c2/binary-arm64/Packages should also be installed? Your original instructions are not specific about this. They are:
  • Package: linux-headers-3.14.79+
    Package: linux-headers-arm64-odroid-c2
    Package: linux-image-3.14.79+
    Package: linux-image-arm64-odroid-c2
    Package: mali450-fbdev-odroid
    Package: mali450-odroid
    Package: media-tree-odroid
    Package: u-boot
At present, the running kernel is 3.14.79-103.

Update2

It seems that linux-headers-3.14.79+ was already installed by 3.17.79-20161215-C2, so I went ahead and installed linux-image-3.14.79+, which went smoothly and installed everything into /boot/ from 3.14.79-82 to 102, so I guess everything is OK?

Apologies for the requested hand-holding, and thanks again for all your work on maintaining this repository! :D

Nothing needs to be installed manually. linux-headers-arm64-odroid-c2 and linux-image-arm64-odroid-c2 are meta packages which always point to the latest linux-headers and linux-image file currently: linux-image-3.14.79+ and linux-headers-3.14.79+. All dependencies should be installed automatically.
stuzog wrote:At present, the running kernel is 3.14.79-103.
Any Kernel having a seriel number -103, -102 or what ever is not from me. My packages have the Date as the version.
stuzog wrote: Update2

It should be extracted to /boot/ but later copied to /media/boot on a Ubuntu system. My Debian images only use /boot/ not /media/boot/.
once again every Kernel -82, -102 or what ever is NOT from me.

If you do an uname -r it should show a 3.14.79+ as a version, nothing else.

  • new packages dependencies for docky:arm64
    in jessie/backports package list
-> @Marcin reported missing dependencies to install "docky" which requires some mono packages.
Some of these packages are not available on Debian Jessie arm64 due to some build difficulties as well as missing mono support on Debian Jessie for arm64.
Since I already ported mono for arm64 to Debian Jessie, I looked into the issues.
I had to disabled some HAVE_NET_4_6 statements in ./glib/Marshaller.cs of gtk-sharp2 sources in order to compile these programs, hopefully it won't have any side-effects.
Since different packages were missing that required gtk-sharp2 I had to build a couple of different source packages in order to get all dependencies compiled

chromium-chromedriver-dbg chromium-chromedriver debug symbols jessie/main
chromium-chromedriver WebDriver driver for the Chromium Browser jessie/main
There is no such packages as chromium-chromedriver and chromium-chromedriver-dbg in Debian Jessie, how did you found them?

Not sure what you mean, I never mentioned "chromium-chromedriver" anywhere in my posts.
"chromedriver" exists and it also exists on x86 Debian Jessie:

Code: Select all

$ apt-cache policy chromedriver
chromedriver:
  Installiert: (keine)
  Installationskandidat: 56.0.2924.76-1~deb8u1
  Versionstabelle:
     56.0.2924.76-1~deb8u1 0
        500 http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates/main amd64 Packages
     55.0.2883.75-1~deb8u1 0
        500 http://ftp2.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie/main amd64 Packages
But for armhf and arm64 I had to rebuild this, since Debian only provides this in Debian Stretch for arm architecture.

nope, not at the moment. Kodi 17 is quite tricky to compile under Debian Jessie, so it will take some time to get it to work, I might actually wait for Debian Stretch instead which would make it more easy, but this might introduce other issues.

2017-05-30:
  • new package kodi-next-odroid
    in jessie/backports package list
    -> Kodi Krypton version 17.3
This version has some crazy dependencies which could easily break parts of your desktop, so I had to be very careful with the dependencies.
I'm not sure if I like this version of Kodi yet, so I don't replace the "old" one with it. Still you can install it with:

    Code: Select all

    apt-get install -t jessie kodi-next-odroid
  • new packages CEC4
    in jessie/backports package list
-> new CEC version 4 used in Kodi Krypton
Not sure if it works, but it was required anyway.
    Backported from Debian Stretch
    CEC4 packages:

    Code: Select all

    cec-utils_4.0.1+dfsg1-1~bpo8_armhf.deb
    libcec4_4.0.1+dfsg1-1~bpo8_armhf.deb
    libcec-dev_4.0.1+dfsg1-1~bpo8_armhf.deb
    python-libcec_4.0.1+dfsg1-1~bpo8_armhf.deb

  • new packages for taglib1
    in jessie/backports package list
    -> requirement for Kodi Krypton
This one was tricky since we already have the same taglib in Debian Jessie, but it required to be build with a higher GCC version than what comes with Debian Jessie.
You also can't let replace existing taglib from Debian Jessie, since many tools rely on it and it would break a lot of tools, therefore I decided to allow them to be installed side by side.
    taglib packages:

    Code: Select all

    libtag1-odroid-dev_1.11.1+dfsg.1-0.1~bpo8_armhf.deb
    libtag1-odroid-doc_1.11.1+dfsg.1-0.1~bpo8_all.deb
    libtag1v5-odroid_1.11.1+dfsg.1-0.1~bpo8_armhf.deb
    libtag1v5-vanilla-odroid_1.11.1+dfsg.1-0.1~bpo8_armhf.deb
    libtagc0-odroid_1.11.1+dfsg.1-0.1~bpo8_armhf.deb
    libtagc0-odroid-dev_1.11.1+dfsg.1-0.1~bpo8_armhf.deb

  • new packages tinyxml
    in jessie/backports package list
    -> Required for Kodi Krypton
    Backport from Debian Stretch
This version is nearly identical to Debian Jessie, but also compiled against a higher GCC version which is needed for Kodi Krypton.
It will replace the version from Debian Jessie if you install Kodi Krypton, but it shouldn't cause any conflicts (hopefully).
    tinyxml packages:

    Code: Select all

    libtinyxml2.6.2v5_2.6.2-4~bpo8_armhf.deb
    libtinyxml2.6.2v5-dbg_2.6.2-4~bpo8_armhf.deb
    libtinyxml-dev_2.6.2-4~bpo8_armhf.deb
    libtinyxml-doc_2.6.2-4~bpo8_all.deb

I won't make Kodi Krypton the default Kodi (just yet) but it might be default on Debian Stretch.
Kodi Kryton (kodi-next-odroid) will replace Kodi Jarvis (kodi-odroid) and XBMC Gotham (xbmc-odroid) if you have one of the two installed.
You should be able to reinstall Kodi Jarvis if you don't like Kodi Krypton with:

Code: Select all

apt-get install kodi-odroid libtinyxml2.6.2
