Resolution problem!

Unread post by eshan » Thu Dec 17, 2015 9:31 pm

I recently purchased ODROID XU4. I installed Android OS using eMMC module. The board works alright but the screen resolution is not good. Every time I try to change the resolution. It displays a message on the screen "Out of range signal. Cannot display the video mode, change computer input to 1680x1050 @ 60Hz" I had a same problem before with ODROID C1 after some help on the forum the resolution problem was solved...

I am using DVI to HDMI cable! and the monitor is DELL

Please see attached the default boot.ini file...

I tried to change the resolution manually but it didn't work.

setenv fb_x_res "1680"
setenv fb_y_res "1050"
setenv hdmi_phy_res "1680x1050p60hz"

Could anyone help please!

Thanks

Unfortunately XU4 does not support 1680x1050, please find the below link.
http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... esolutions

Only marked with 'O' are supported resolutions by a board.

Hello ODROID,

I understand currently ODROID XU4 doesn't support 1680x1050p60hz resolution. It is a request from your loyal customer please consider 1680x1050p60hz for XU4. I have got ODROID C1 and C1+ and they are such a brilliant boards... So is ODROID XU4.

ODROID C1 and C1+ supports 1680x1050p60hz and works perfectly but not ODROID XU4...

Please consider in the future perhaps...

Thanks

It is almost impossible to add a clock configuration of the HDMI PHY to support that resolution.
It is a sort of hardware limitation of Exynos platfom.

But, I want to know about your screen little bit more.
Can you connect your screen to a X86 Linux PC and type a command of "xrandr --verbose"?
The output result will help us to know the feasibility at least.

If there is a "hardware limitation" then there is nothing one can do. I cannot connect the screen to a X86 Linux PC, because I haven't got one, Sorry. However, I have got a Banana Pro, Couple of Raspberry Pi's also Gizmo 2. None of them have issue with the screen resolution. Only ODROID boards seems to be not fully compatible with the screen resolution. However, ODROID C1 haven't got this issue anymore after adding the resolution manually by editing boot.ini file.

I was thinking I would do the same with ODROID XU4 but no luck...

As you said it is the hardware limitation of Exynos platform!

Such a shame!

Thanks anyway...

I considered to develop a workaround to support the 1680x1050 resolution.
When you have a chance to connect the screen to any x86 linux machine, post the output one day.

Hey
I have the same problem. I run the test as you wish. Please take a look to the attachment, its the xrandr --verbose output.
The Ubuntu resolution was perfect in the 16:10 screensize. uname -a output is (live dvd):
Linux ubuntu 3.13.0-32-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 15 03:51:08 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Thank you!
Shadra

edit + ps
I use for my odroid xu4 the ubuntu image and a hdmi to dvi adapter. vout in boot.ini is set to dvi and all things work very good. but the wrong screensize makes fonts on websites unreadable or realy hard so its not good to use.

146.2Mhz for your native resolution 1680 x 1050 can't be supported by Exynos process.
So it is impossible. :(

Well, is there a option for a lower resolution in 16:10? e.g. 1440x900 or 1280x800?

edit
that was a dump question from me, nevermind... 1440x900 is supported (http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... esolutions)
but the fonts on websites are not sharp... a bit blurred. how can i fix this problem with a lower resolution? is there some kind of antializing or optimizing what can solve the problem?
1440x900 looks ok for me, it's easy to read for different people (it's a public place)

I have no idea how your monitor internally scale-up the display from 1440x900 to 1680x1050.
It is out of my knowledge about the font rendering management too. Sorry about that.

I try some things or change the screen from 22" to 19" or anything like that.
Thanks for your help! :)
