Choose audio out device USB Audio Converter

Post by Michel Labitzke »

Hello together.

Finally I have received the USB to audio converter 8-)
I can get audio in and out from this adapter, while HDMI is NOT connected.
If the C1 starts while HDMI is connected, audio out is routed to HDMI.
Is there a way, to modify the routing via command line, or patch?
BTW: Audio in comes from a connected USB webcam.

Thanks in advance for any Support.

Michel

Hi Michel,
I encountered the same issue as you, I even posted it few days ago http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=113&t=9884.

One workaround for this is to wait until the ODROID-C1 board completely boot up and then you hook-up your webcam, the audio out should
work properly. In my case this workaround is not practical but maybe it is useful for you.

You need to plug the webcam after full booting of the Android.

Do we need to purchase the USB Audio Adapter also?

Please advise.

The Webcam has a micro-phone inside.
The audio-output comes from the HDMI TV.
So the USB sound card could be optional.

Hello,

We've purchased the ODROID-C1+ and ODROID USB-CAM 720P+ . On set-up, we observed native App on Android records video/audio. However, on playback, the audio output is distorted. We also used the Android speech recorder and output was same. We created a video of our setup and audio output at https://youtu.be/k2Wu3ebjuxQ

Please review and advise.

HDMI audio output sample rate frequency and USB sound card input sample rate are different.
So we are implementing a dynamic sample rate converter these days. But it may take 2~3 weeks because it is quite complicated.

XU4 stock Android BSP doesn't support the webcam input well.
Somebody reported voodik's CM12 works with webcam and skype. But there seems to be 500~1000msec of delay on the video input.

Hello Odroid.

Will we experience the audio-output problem if we use Linux on the C1+? Please advise.

Is the distorted audio output peculiar to android on the C1+ or its a problem with C1+ hardware? Will we get good audio output with Linux on C1+?

It is not a hardware issue. Ubuntu has clear sound input/output.

I am developing the XU4 as a GUI input device using wxpython - nice machine.
My display is a simple HDMI TFT screen.
I was hoping to play audio thru USB but if HDMI is connected, it grabs that stream.
Is there any way to divert the purely audio output to an amplifier/speaker?
Does anyone else have similar requirements? I'd like to exchange ideas, maybe hack the HDMI?
Graham.

Try "DVI" mode by editing your boot.ini file.

Solution!!
There are cheap HDMI breakout boxes available on Amazon. I tested the process by running the XU4 a full-size monitor with an audio output jack. I don't know if the circuit in the box is a dumb breakout or if it is a repeater/booster, but will examine it today.

Re: Choose audio out device USB Audio Converter

Turns out the situation is more complex than I hoped. There are no audio pins: audio is encoded with the video stream. The splitter I bought has a specialized IC that separates the audio stream and copes with the many different formats in use.
This would all be much easier if the XU4 had native audio out or even USB that would run concurrent with HDMI for display.
Any rumors of such?
Graham.
