Kernel 5.0.3y - no SPIDEV?

Unread post by MichaelAnders » Thu Jan 23, 2020 9:09 am

I have an USB 3.0 HDMI Grabber that I want to use for hyperion.ng ("Amberlight")

Due to problems (kernel errors) with the USB device I went to the 5.0.3y build. That solved the USB issue, the video is being captured perfectly.

Now all that is left is to use SPI to drive the LEDs - but I cannot find the spidev.ko file in my build, so there is no /dev/spidev* which can be used :(

Could someone tell me which kernel config parameter(s) need to be set so that this is available again?

Thanks in advance!

Hi.

Actually I'm not sure what kernel 5.0.3y is. Could you tell us which OS image file you used?

I'm running a self-compiled linux kernel based on this thread:

It's hard to help you since we don't know how you set your kernel. ;)

Basically /dev/spidev file can be created when SPI related nodes are described in the device tree source.
I recommend you to use the latest 5.4 kernel (in development so far) if you can. Currently, 5.4 kernel has SPI nodes probably you need.
