XU4: critical temp STOP

Unread post by epierre » Thu Jan 16, 2020 5:12 am

Hello,

I have an issue with my XU4:

Dec 20 03:00:01 odroid kernel: [710667.455717] thermal thermal_zone0: critical temperature reached (117 C)
Dec 20 03:00:20 odroid kernel: [ 19.964697] thermal thermal_zone0: critical temperature reached (117 C), shutting down
Dec 20 03:00:20 odroid kernel: [ 19.972292] thermal thermal_zone1: critical temperature reached (117 C), shutting down
Dec 20 03:00:20 odroid kernel: [ 19.983109] thermal thermal_zone1: critical temperature reached (117 C), shutting down

Since then impossible to start it for long... I have this in the statup logs:

Dec 20 03:00:09 odroid kernel: [ 3.497179] iommu: Adding device 13e10000.video-scaler to group 7
Dec 20 03:00:09 odroid kernel: [ 3.523104] thermal thermal_zone0: failed to read out thermal zone (-22)
Dec 20 03:00:09 odroid kernel: [ 3.529264] thermal thermal_zone1: failed to read out thermal zone (-22)
Dec 20 03:00:09 odroid kernel: [ 3.536017] thermal thermal_zone2: failed to read out thermal zone (-22)
Dec 20 03:00:09 odroid kernel: [ 3.542651] thermal thermal_zone3: failed to read out thermal zone (-22)
Dec 20 03:00:09 odroid kernel: [ 3.549354] thermal thermal_zone4: failed to read out thermal zone (-22)

any idea ?

some more tests: sometime starts then stops.

the more reproducible is start, power up eth, works, and when powering up the kernel network layer stops.

Which kernel version and OS image do you use?

Looks like a broken temp sensor, I posted a workaround somewhere on the forum.

*Edit*
While I'm not certain it will help your issue you could try the following:

That kernel must have the patch.

Show me the following command outputs.

Code: Select all

cat /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/thermal_zone*/temp

Freshly flash this latest image to narrow down root causes.
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/os_i ... 10-minimal

If you still have the same issue with the latest image, the SoC CPU on your board might have some hardware issue.
When/where did you buy your XU4?

Something could be wrong with hardware.
When did you buy it?

I would run the fan all the time and add the emulated temperature command to a startup script. At least this allows you to continue to use the XU4.

Any chance to resolder the board? (hot plate & hotair gun?)
Maybe it's only a cold solder joint somewhere?

I'm not too familiar with the schematics, but if there are real NTCs onboard, they could be replaced.

No the sensors are part of the SoC

Right. the sensors are placed in the SoC inside. :(
