HC1 not booting, UART not showing anything

Unread post by Ramesh Chandra » Thu Dec 19, 2019 11:36 pm

Hi,

My HC2 board stopped working yesterday. On power on it's showing Red light and Blue light is blinking for a second. I tried with reflash OMV and Ubuntu 18.04 minimal image. But nothing is working. I tried to debug with UART cable using my Windows 10 laptop. Nothing is showing on the terminal.
Can anybody help me in fixing the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Did you flash the OS image with Etcher?
Let us know the file name you flashed.
Which power supply do you use?

I tried both OMV_4_Odroid_XU4_HC1_HC2.img.xz and ubuntu-18.04-4.14-minimal-odroid-xu4-20180531.img.xz image with Balena Etcher.
For Power supply I am using 5V/6A PSU.

OS file names are correct.
But HC2 needs 12V/2A or 12V/3A from a PSU.
Double check your PSU specification.

Sorry, my bad.
I am having the issue with HC1. I will update the title.
I am using 5v 6.0A 30W PSU.
It was a working board. it suddenly stopped working.

Remove your SATA storage device from HC1 and connect the PSU.
Is the blue LED solid on for a couple of seconds and turns off? or flashing like heartbeat for a few seconds?

Without external drive, the blue light is solid for 2-3 seconds.

I think there seems to be a hardware problem in your HC1 board.
Do you have XU4 or another HC1 board to check your USB-UART cable functionality?

I bought UART cable just to troubleshoot this issue.
Any other idea on troubleshooting the issue?

If the blue LED turns on shortly, the SoC CPU could read the boot loader from the SD card at least.
In that case, there must be some outputs from the serial console probably.

Did you set the serial terminal settings? You need to check the UART speed 115200bps and disable all flow-control options.

I am using the same kit, which I bought brom https://roborium.com/odroid-usb-uart-mo ... ch=%20UART.
Right now I am not seeing any output in console using UART from my Windows 10 laptop. Attaching PUtty setting for serial port communication.

Let me know if there anything else I can verify

The settings are correct and you did as much as you could.
Please contact "odroid at hardkernel dot com" with a link of this post.
They will help your RMA process if you purchased the board from our web-store directly.
Otherwise, contact your local distributor/reseller.

What is the Guarantee/Warranty period of these boards?
I purchase this board when I was in USA from https://ameridroid.com/. But now I moved to India. Will ameridroid be able to replace this board?

The warranty period that Hardkernel provides for its products is 4 weeks. If it is outside of the warranty period, you can contact Hardkernel to see about having them repair it for a fee.

Two ways shipping cost must be more expensive than the HC1 price. :(
