XU4 Cannot launch Ubuntu 14.04 on SD Card
Hey guys,
I've got an ODROID XU4 Board and i wanted to boot a 14.04 dist Ubuntu on it. Sadly it doesn't go according to plan.
Here's my setup:
ODROID XU4
Standard HDMI2VGA Cable
Standard 5V/4A Power Adapter
Sandisk 16GB Ultra HC1 microSD SD Card (Image Here: https://www.ebay.com/bhp/16gb-micro-sd-class-10)
LG 20mp38hb Monitor
This is what i've done:
1) download the proper Ubuntu releases(links below)
2) flashed the SD card with Win32DiskImager
3) inserted the SD card to it's slot and set the switch to "uSD"
4) connected the HDMI cable
5) connected the power adapter
Here's what happens:
1) the red led turns on in a constant manner
2) the blue light turns on steady at first but then starts blinking in a 'heartbeat' mode
3) some text starts showing on the monitor(text concerning the Ubuntu booting)
4) the text stops at this line: "systemd-udevd[1583]: starting version 204"
I searched the forum and found this post: viewtopic.php?f=99&t=9525#p226661
Apparently, orange eMMCs cause the same problem. But i have an SD card. Can it be the cause of this?
The images i've tried (from this link: http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... nux_ubuntu)
ubuntu-14.04.1lts-lubuntu-odroid-xu3-20141105
ubuntu-14.04.1lts-lubuntu-odroid-xu3-20150212
P.S: I know it says XU3 in the name, but the manual at this link http://magazine.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/ says on page 22 that this is okay.
ALSO: i tested the same setup(same board, same SD card, ...) with Ubuntu 16.04 (release name below) and it booted without a problem. I could login and do my work. But i need the 14.04 dist for my work.

Do you have a USB-UART module to monitor the booting process?
Is there any specific reason to use old 14.04 instead of 18.04?

I doubt it. But could you please send a link of this device? I may have it and not know it.
I have an application/code that was designed to run on a 14.04 dist and is compatible with that dist. There is a good chance it won't work with later dists.

Both 14.04 images booted well with our UHS-1 SD card on an XU4 board.
Try other SD cards with
Use Etcher for flashing without extracting .xz file.

Re: XU4 Cannot launch Ubuntu 14.04 on SD Card
OK. Quick update.
I tried a "SAMSUNG EVO 32GB Class 10" SD Card and it booted successfully.
Although i am 99% sure that the previous SD Card wasn't damaged.

Re: XU4 Cannot launch Ubuntu 14.04 on SD Card
I think old 3.10.69 kernel might have a worse SD card compatibility.
