[SOLVED] HC2 boot problem (VIDEO)

Unread postby Daxx » Sun Aug 05, 2018 5:22 am

Hi,

Please take a look at this power up using 'OMV_4_Odroid_XU4_HC1_HC2.img'.
It shows two cycles of the loop which seems to be getting nowhere, although I have no idea what I should expect to see.
This is one of those situations where headless devices are not much fun :evil:

Is there an amber LED to the right of the green one on the RJ-45 socket or are the flashes sparks? :o ;)

( I suspected there might be a load problem on the official 12V/2A PSU with a 4TB WD Red HDD attached, so I disconnected the HDD, for this video )

Thanks,

Dave

Can you please try the official Ubuntu image to narrow down root causes?

I waited for UART to arrive, so here are the results using that image:

POWER OFF / WAIT 2+ mins / POWER ON

At the end, SATA, Power & Ethernet LEDs are lit but no blue status LED :(

Thank you for the boot logs.
According to log output, I think some portion of the CPU or DRAM seems to have a hardware damage.

Please contact "odroid at hardkernel dot com" with a link to this topic.
She will help your RMA process if you purchased the board from us directly.
Otherwise, contact your local distributor. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Thanks for your attention @odroid -- I found the problem -- Image was corrupted by Ark (KDE Archiving tool) Version 2.19.

The md5sum of the compressed (.xz) image was OK.
I had read advice that etcher could burn without extracting but the "Open File" dialog in Etcher Version 1.4.4 on Kubuntu filters on "OS images" file types with no option to select to “All files” which means I had to extract the image from the xz archive, manually, to get the .img to appear in the dialog's list of files.

Ark seems to extract the boot directory OK but the rootfs directory only has space allocated (not sure of those specifics).

fdisk shows the differences:

Code: Select all
$ fdisk -l  ubuntu-18.04-4.14-minimal-odroid-xu4-20180531.img

Disk ubuntu-18.04-4.14-minimal-odroid-xu4-20180531.img: 2094 MB, 2094006272 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 254 cylinders, total 4089856 sectors

Code: Select all
$ fdisk -l  ubuntu-18.04-4.14-minimal-odroid-xu4-20180531_BAAAD.img

Disk ubuntu-18.04-4.14-minimal-odroid-xu4-20180531_BAAAD.img: 201 MB, 201330688 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24 cylinders, total 393224 sectors

For the OMV image I tried on the initial report, md5sums were not available for the extracted .img, so I couldn't verify.
OMV is now up and running.

Thanks, again

Dave

Right, I heard some extract tools could make dirty chunk while extracting a large compressed file.
Anyway, glad to hear you made it work.
