eMMC & reader DOA

Unread postby chippey5 » Sun Oct 29, 2017 5:11 am

I just received my order and I'm very happy with everything except for the eMMC, which seems to be DOA. I've tried with 2 other eMMC to µSDcard and from that with 2 different µSDcard to SDcard readers, aswell as two different µSDcard to USB readers. In Linux, it is not detecting the card at all. In Windows, a device is detected, but can't be formatted by the built-in formatting tools . If I try SDformatter, it basically gives the same. Any suggestions? Here's the attachment with readers and adapters i've cross tested. Haven't had any issues with reading my other eMMC.

Your card reader seems not to be compatible with the new adapter board.

What happens when you plug your new eMMC into XU4 board?

Thanks for the replies. So when attaching the eMMC to the XU4 it actually boots Ubuntu mate. However, it is still corrupted somehow when reading it. The eMMC is the same version as my other one - v0.3, and my other one is read with no issues in either windows or linux. It doesn't matter which adapter I use with it that I have, with all combinations i posted before, it is readable, but my new one isn't.

I've tried gparted, fsck, dd zero it as well as fdisk it to wipe it somehow. It just doesn't let me. Any ideas?

try emmc recovery process....

https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/emmc/recovery_xu4

wiki needs attention .... after the blue led stops it is then re-imaged and ready to reboot again
into android..remove sd-card ..switch to emmc and apply power again..boot the board off the emmc and after a few minutes you should see the android image appear..

next shut it down and then remove the emmc..it is now ready to re-flash the xu4 image to it..follow general flashing instructions...as per wiki..

Alright I was able to do the recovery, flash and test an other image for it, and it worked. However, when I try to read the eMMC with the exact same adapters neither Windows or Linux can detect it. It renders the possibility to modify anything on it pretty pointless unless I mount it from an other installation on an SD card on my XU4... Any ideas?

How did you "flash and test another image"?
Which image did you flash? Let me know the file name.
Did you use "Transcend" reader?

Flashed a normal SD2eMMC image to an SD card. I've used both transcend and others that work just fine with my other eMMC.

If the sd2eMMC recovery was fine and could boot Android, your eMMC module should be fine.

So there should be something wrong between the eMMC and your host PC interface.
Do you use a Linux PC or Windows PC?

Both Windows and Linux as stated in OP. My other eMMC's read just fine with exactly the same equipment
