Hi,

Could ecryptfs be enabled please?

I'm on

root@bopolissimus:~# uname -ra Linux bopolissimus 3.10.82 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 14 01:28:23 BRT 2015 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux

and

gzip -d config.gz -c | grep -i ecrypt

says:

# CONFIG_ECRYPT_FS is not set

Thank you very much.

thank you.
so with next kernel update we'll get xfs support again?

I've cross compiled a kernel with XFS support and latest 3.10 patchlevel (3.10.93)

Code: Select all
root@server:~# uname -a
Linux server 3.10.93+ #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Nov 23 23:32:22 CET 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux
root@server:~# mkfs.xfs -V
mkfs.xfs version 3.1.7

You can grab it here:
ftp://vserver.obihoernchen.net/ODROID-X ... -23.tar.xz

To install it do something like this:
Code: Select all
#!/bin/bash

rm -r /boot/*
# for safety
rm -r /tmp/kernel-update

echo "Download kernel"
mkdir /tmp/kernel-update
cd /tmp/kernel-update
wget ftp://vserver.obihoernchen.net/ODROID-XU4-KERNEL/3.10.93+_2015-11-23.tar.xz -O kernel.tar.xz

echo
echo "Extract kernel"
tar -xf kernel.tar.xz

KERNEL_VERSION=$(ls config-* | sed 's/^config-//')
echo
echo "Kernel Version: $KERNEL_VERSION"

echo
echo "Copy firmware and modules"
cp -R lib/* /lib

echo
echo "Create intramfs and uInitrd"
cp config-$KERNEL_VERSION /boot
update-initramfs -c -k $KERNEL_VERSION
mkimage -A arm -O linux -T ramdisk -C none -a 0 -e 0 -n uInitrd -d /boot/initrd.img-$KERNEL_VERSION /boot/uInitrd-$KERNEL_VERSION

echo
echo "Install kernel"
mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /media/boot
cp zImage /media/boot
cp exynos5422-odroidxu3.dtb /media/boot
cp /boot/uInitrd-$KERNEL_VERSION /media/boot/uInitrd
sync
sleep 3
umount /media/boot

rm -r /tmp/kernel-update

echo
echo "Kernel updated successfully"
echo "Reboot to use new kernel"

Would it be fine if I enabled XFS support on my C1 and XU4 kernel? Regarding to your experience, does it cause any side effects, I have been asked to do this for my Odrobian distro. Although, I heard it could possibly break docker support.. :(

Hello Obihoernchen (Markus),

can you publish the kernel source for patchlevel 3.10.93?
I want to merge the RT patch for my project. Or can you merge into and publish the hole kernel?

Thanks
Markus

Any chance of getting Linux kernel driver modules for V4L-DVB devices included in the kernel?

I have spent the last week trying to get my heading around installing them myself following both their instructions:
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/H ... ce_Drivers

and also tried recompiling the kernel myself, but nothing I do has worked. The UX4 would be an ideal machine to run tvheadend, but I have hit a wall trying to get it to work.

Okay, so I came across these two pages:

https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/issues/34
https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/pull/101

which might help me, or at least lead me to provide you more info on the modules I actually need.

generally DVB support is activated.. It most likely depends on what device you want to use.

My device is based on the ITE IT9135 chipset

http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/ITE_IT9135

According to the linuxtv documentation IT9135 devices are supported by V4L through the following modules.
dvb-usb-it913x
it913x-fe

I am getting the following from dmesg. I think this means the drivers aren't included in the kernel?

root@odroid:~# dmesg |grep dvb
[ 10.769207] [c7] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_it913x

After going through make menuconfig I see the module is installed, so the driver is failing for some other reason.

check the syslog instead of dmesg.. maybe just some firmware files are missing or so.
I checked on the 3.10.92 Kernel as you said the drivers is already included, so that doesn't seem to be the issue.
modinfo says the following firmwares are required:
Code: Select all
firmware:       dvb-usb-it9137-01.fw
firmware:       dvb-usb-it9135-02.fw
firmware:       dvb-usb-it9135-01.fw

make sure you have these files available or else the driver won't work.

Hi! I finally switched my long in the tooth OMV system from a BBB to my new XU4 and everything is good running so far, except that I'm missing support for the EcryptFS module in the current kernel 3.10.103 .
Unfortunately my set up relies on that and I'm a bit stuck.

Any way you could enable support for this module for me?

Can't wait to finally have some decent network / usb speeds as my previous set up was really slow.

Thank you very much!

All the best,
Sebastian

@mdrjr: Could you also add support for XFS and all its options (ACL, quota, etc)? As modules is fine.
Also, there was an option to log crash messages via the network (NETLOG?)
This is not urgent - whenever the next update cycle comes. I'm currently using my own kernel. Also, it would be nice to have them in kernel 4.9 as well

I've been searching around but wasn't able to find any instructions on how to get kernel updates via apt-get, but could only come across the ones from meveric, however the kernel on his page appears to be still from 2016, so I'm not sure it's the correct one.

I tried updating the kernel via the odroid-utility and while this is pulling the kernel from your builder site, the kernel listed there doesn't include the ecryptfs module support yet.

Would you be able to point me in the correct direction?

Thank you very much!

If you use official Ubuntu 16.04 image, just follow 4 steps to update the kernel in this link.

Thanks, but this doesn't work for me.

I'm using the Openmediavault XU3/XU4 image and upgraded that to the latest OMV3 running on Jessie. I installed the latest kernel using the odroid-utility script and am now looking for a way to install the updated kernel with encryptfs support that mdrjr created for me.

Thanks,

Generally that's a way to do it, although I have to build the new Kernel from mdrjr first.
rainforest1155 wrote:however the kernel on his page appears to be still from 2016, so I'm not sure it's the correct one.

That is not was is explained in the link above, this is more like a testing folder where special Kernels were placed, that were either never released, or had some special changes, or are backups for people that required older Kernels.

odroid-utility is outdated, I doubt it's still maintained.

Thanks for the information, meveric.
I've been trying to find what repo to add to my Debian to be able to get the kernel that mdrjr built. Is it the deb.odroid.in one? It's hard to tell as the server doesn't seem to allow you to easily browse the packages on it.
If it's the one, I would just add an apt source like this:
deb http://deb.odroid.in/ trusty main
or do I need anything else as well?

EDIT: I added the meveric-all-XU3.list source as I noticed that there's already a new kernel build with ecryptfs support on it (thanks for that!). However, installing the kernel via the apt-get option doesn't seem to work. It fails like this:
Code: Select all

I managed to get the apt-get install of the kernel image and headers to work by renaming the existing dtb file. However, after the successful install, the kernel is not active after rebooting. I still have the version 3.10.103 that I installed previously via odroid-utility.
While I can see the new 3.10.104+ files in the /boot directory, they don't seem to load.

I did notice that the uInitrd file matched the uInitrd-3.10.103. So it seems that the kernel update didn't copy the new uInitrd-3.10.104+ into place. However doing that, didn't change anything either. uname -r still returns 3.10.103.

Here's a listing of the /boot folder:

-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 3273288 Sep 10 16:53 zImage

Note how the zImage file is way older than any of the others. And looking at the dmesg log, I see:
Code: Select all
[    0.000000] [c0] Booting Linux on physical CPU 0x100
[    0.000000] [c0] Initializing cgroup subsys cpuset

[    0.000000] [c0] CPU: ARMv7 Processor [410fc073] revision 3 (ARMv7), cr=10c5387d

So somehow the actual kernel is still using parts of the original kernel that the Debian image I'm using likely came with?

I'm now properly lost on how to try to sort this out.

Does any of you have any ideas?

Thank you very much!

if you check file size and date of files you see:
uInitrd is the correct file, it has the same filesize as uInitrd-3.10.104+ which is correct.
But zImage is from Sep 10 and vmlinuz has a different size. You should be able to overweite zImage with vmlinuz-3.10.104+ and then have a 3.10.104 kernel
Code: Select all
cp /boot/vmlinuz-3.10.104+ /boot/zImage/

for booting the following 3 files are important:
zImage = Kernel
uInitrd = (uncompressed) initrd fiel created out of initrd.img-<VERSION> which houses boot environment tools and modules.
exynos5422-odroidxu3.dtb = device tree file
boot.ini = init scripts for booting and configuration.

everything else is nice to have ;)
everything seems fine except zImage.

@meveric

I'm guessing you will have an unofficial package for 4.9 soon or are you waiting for official?

I'm waiting for official.. I have too many other things I'm working on to do experimental stuff at the moment.
Also it seem that there's a big performance drop in 3D graphics with 4.9 I have to check how much this affects the system.
I will probably publish both Kernels for a while when it's available.

Edit:
Since there's already a branch from HardKernel I might actually give it a try a little bit earlier than I thought I would.

I'm in no hurry, I have been using 4.9 for months but a package would be good.

If you want to give it a try: http://oph.mdrjr.net/meveric/kernel/XU3/4.9.x/
I haven't had time for testing yet though.
