    @mangaldasan

Yes it is, it will download and extract libwidevine.so from it to use it as a software decoder for DRM copy protected video streams, you have to have a modified sudoers file to make the extraction process work

    Hi @AreaScout

thanks a lot for your work. I just love being able to use kodi on my odroid!

Today, I wanted to test the Netflix addon. I followed your inscription. It seems like things ran perfectly. I can log in, see the list of my videos. However, when I click on a video, it doesn't open. Here is what I have in the log:

    Code: Select all

      @meaz

I don't know this error, I have tried Netflix a few minutes ago and I can't reproduce the error, it works flawlessly, it did a update for the libwidevine.so, maybe you can re-download the library and set the update frequency inside the script.module.inputstreamhelper settings to something earlier then a few days ?

edit: There is also a Rollback option inside the settings if it was working previously

There are two plugins, one for Germany (Europe) and one for the US, the Euro version will not work in the US.

It will show content but not play it.

Correct, for Netflix. They are both from the same plugin author as well.

One is called Netflix VOD and one is just Netflix I believe.

You're right, I was wrong about the naming convention but there are multiple versions of Netflix.

I just tried to install two different ones and they both failed due to a wierd dependency missing, the dependency is related to Windows even though I'm running Linux.

I was mistaken about this, it was Amazon that has the Euro vs US version. But I tested this version of the Netflix add-on and it works up to 1080p on my N2.

              https://github.com/CastagnaIT/plugin.vi ... /README.md

Install the repository then install Netflix from within the CastagnaIT repository.

I have fixed a dependency for the Netflix plugin and added it to the debian package, next time you are downloading and installing the kodi-bin 18.5 package, libnss3 will be installed automatically ;)

I have no clue where to post it, so as I use XU4 and this Kodi 18.5 I decided to ask it here:
I have a little light but very shrill sound on my board, I would say about every 10 seconds. It is a bit annoying. Has anyone ever hear of this kind of thing? How could I fix it or at least find how/why it occurs?

Ahh ! That's the CPU fan, isn't it ? If yes you can run this command to turn the fan always on at full speed, because at full speed the fan is not so loud

                    as root issue this command:

                    Code: Select all

                    echo 30000 | sudo tee /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/thermal_zone{0,1,2,3}/trip_point_0_temp

Thanks a mil for the packages!

I wanted to ask for any tips to make reproducible builds (even better if we can dockerize this). Just to have the possibility of applying patches and building new packages directly from git sources (including specific tags).
I've been putting together a RetroPie build using the -minimal image as base, and encountered some minor hiccups in the way. Kodi was one of them due to the GLES drivers.

Hm, actually this broke GL for me:

                    Code: Select all

                    lvl0: Error creating SDL window!
                    	Could not initialize EGL
                    lvl0: Renderer failed to initialize!
                    lvl0: Window failed to initialize!
/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libGL.so.1 belongs to libgl1 (did not touch any of these).

Obviously the whole lot of X11 is broken now too. Ugh...

                    Hey @AreaScout,

                    Thanks for the guide!

Sorry, this is probably a noob question, but I'm trying to install the packages on an N2 and I'm not having much luck:

                    Code: Select all

                    root@odroid:~/temp# apt install ./mali-x11-gbm-fbdev_19.0.6-1_armhf.deb
                    Reading package lists... Done
                    Building dependency tree
                    Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting 'mali-x11-gbm-fbdev:armhf' instead of './mali-x11-gbm-fbdev_19.0.6-1_armhf.deb'
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Just to confirm: I tested again removing the mali package and that makes SDL2/X11 work again.... but obviously not kodi from these packages. What is the procedure to solve this? Rebuild SDL2? X11 as well?

                    Hey @AreaScout,

                    Thanks for the guide!

Sorry, this is probably a noob question, but I'm trying to install the packages on an N2 and I'm not having much luck:
                    That's only for XU4's :)

Don't install this package on Ubuntu Mate 18.04 images, this is Kodi with GBM video driver backend and will not run on same tty like X11, use the minimal image ;)

Hey! Thank you for the prompt response. I installed these on a -minimal image actually. I am using RetroPie built from sources though. Ideally I would like to use Kodi 18.5 without breaking compat for the RetroPie stack.
Rebuilding emulationstation right now just to check... but I doubt it will help.

You must compile SDL2 with gbm support and not for fbdev support, PPSSPP wouldn't need to be patched and every thing else could then run with GBM, follow my GBM emulation thread here viewtopic.php?f=98&t=32173

Thank you! Do you know if I can apply the required CFLAGS and such to the RetroPie setup? I don't want to hijack this thread though.

Ahh ! That's the CPU fan, isn't it ? If yes you can run this command to turn the fan always on at full speed, because at full speed the fan is not so loud

                          as root issue this command:

                          Code: Select all

                          echo 30000 | sudo tee /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/thermal_zone{0,1,2,3}/trip_point_0_temp

                          RG
Nope. I don't have any fan...

If anyone has the issues I had, I just got this to work by following the SDL2 rebuild notes in viewtopic.php?f=98&t=32173, and then manually rebuilding retroarch and emulationstation. RetroPie-setup will actually remove the mali gbm driver package... so you need to immediately reinstall it before rebuilding ES. I haven't tested any games yet, but ES and Kodi work and run alongside each other just fine.

Do you have any other linux machine with HD Audio 8 or 6 channel capable hardware in your network ? We can try to stream the audio to another machine and see if that error disappears or not

                              @AreaScout:

Meanwhile i get the whole stuff working, awesome work! Just forgot the line in /usr/bin/kodi. Now Widevine CDM install works perfect with odroid user, thanks a lot for your help.

Another short question: Any chance to integrate "RetroPi" / "RetroArch" Emulators into the system, my first try was not successful and the system is crashing during the compilation of retropi.

It has to be the other way around, Kodi has to be integrated in RetroPie and yes, it works, ring-0 was asking the same already

I have to check if the mali-gbm package somehow was deleted or something else is at play (as the retropie setup script launches different calls to apt for managing packages and it defaults to -y modifiers, so it will remove any packages in conflict without warning).

Hm, another issue I found: HDMI-CEC is not working. I confirmed the cable and TV connection work with an rPI3+, HDMI CEC works well with that and I also tested Kodi + RetroPie there.
I think I saw something you posted about this?

AreaScout didn't implement it yet in kernel. If You can, You can download source for curent kernel ( as I remember @Memeka is modifing this kernel ) and biuld Your .deb packages but I don't know if it will be the same config that @AreaScout is using ( his changes).

                                      @AreaScout
I had put Kodi 18.5 on my Xu4+ CS2. Debian buster and kernel 5.4... that You gave me links just before New Year, but it didn't play OK for me.

When I play h265 content in kodi video was OK but something strange with sound ( it's connected to Pioneer VSX921 amplifier).
some problem with sync. Speaker icons were flashing ( like lost signal fo maybe 50ms with interval 500ms ca. ) so there was silence of this "50ms" so I return to image with kernel 4.14. where it plays correct.
Did You had some situation like this ??

I didn't test Kodi with latest kernel 5.4.6 on CS2 yet, but lost picture and flashing icons doesn't sound good

Will try to confirm that today

I can't confirm that, I have run kodi from my CS2 just excellence and fine with kernel 5.4.6, no problem what so ever 🎁, even cec is working πŸ•Ήbut it has the same problem with disconnects when adjust frame rate is enabled like kernel 4.14 had :(

                                        OK.
So I will try with direct connection to TV what i did not test before.

Maybe there was a missunderstanding about Lost pictures, just flashing icons on amplifier and voice was off on that time.
                                        Watching like this isn’t comfortable.

From my point of view it’s like some audio frame that goes over hdmi Lost description what type of sound is transfered.

Will check direct connection, when return home

I had just swaped ( busy week, I made it today) SD cards with images I had with tested image 5.4 and now there was no interruption on audio ( amplifier). Do no know why, after last updates reboot was done many times and I had that problem.

So now there is no audio problem at all.
Only I can see if X265 content is played by Kodi I have bigg delay with buttons click.
Maybe I need to completely install all from begining.

You have to be careful with h265 codec, the XU4 is only able to play back 1080p h265 videos and this is done in software, 4k h265 movies would stutter a lot with big delay, the XU4 does not have a H265 hardware decoder onboard, the hw decoder onboard is only able to decode <= h264 videos

Yes I know. I'm also IT, just didn't go forward in programing way. No I'm playing with AVR in C.

I know h.264 is HW and h.265 is SW, so I play only 1080 content, but there is profit ( kodi 18.5 + kernel 5.11.4)

When I play h.265 on ( kodi 18.2+ kernel 4.14.150) temps shown on LCD ~70 deg so quite high for longer piriod of time.

When I play h.265 on (kodi 18.5+ your kernel 5.11.4) temps shownk on LCD ~60 deg. :-)

I have 40x40x40 heat dispencer on XU4 and it just touch top HDD in my CS2. Also I've used IC Diamond paste :-)

P.S. I don't know what I did wrong with Netflix.
When I installed all need software and activate, also pip ... ( as kodi user not root), tried to start Netflix and message popup " backgroud services not running. If You just install Netflix please try later" something like this. I'm wonder what can be the reason. The same situation next day morning.

                                                @AreaScout

I double check setup and there was problem with CDR... init (somethink like this).

My problem was I had installed " pip wheel && pip pycryptodomex" as root.

I was thinking I fix it ( made it as user kodi - user created for player ) but kodi is starting as my default user lukas where I didn't made pip ...

I need to double check HDMI_hotlug deb package setup to set kodi user to run player.

I need to double check HDMI_hotlug deb package setup to set kodi user to run player.
That's right, then you just have to change the user inside /etc/udev/rules.d/hdmi.rules and reload the rules with udevadm control --reload-rules && udevadm trigger

Do you have any other linux machine with HD Audio 8 or 6 channel capable hardware in your network ? We can try to stream the audio to another machine and see if that error disappears or not

No I don't. But I'm almost sure the sound is coming from the hard drive. It is allday, even if tv is off...

From a shell issue this commands

                                                    Code: Select all

                                                    sudo apt-get install python-pip
                                                    pip install wheel
                                                    pip install pycryptodomex

Note: the commands above has to be executed as user odroid (non root user)

I modified user which should run kodi ( my plan was kodi user) with Your instructions.

It's running OK now, but I had problem with Netflix to run.
I checked castagnait github install details and found problem with right implementation of "pycryptodomex".

Please edit 1st post and add line after "apt install python-pip"
