Hi Josico,

Could you please take a picture of the screen you see? This should help break the language barrier :)

sorry a bit off-topic, but i always find it very funny.. people saying "i don't speak english" but if you check their profile it's saying "languages_spoken" english?

Really? You don't speak english, but the only language you speak in your profile is "english"?
Ever thought about what could happen if you put up the language you actually speak?
Like some people speaking your language might actually think about talking to you in your language to help you?

Just a thought that i sometimes have when i see people saying "i don't speak english" but have english as their only language in the profile ;)

Hi Josico,

Never seen this one before, strange!

I will need to see your system settings:
- When this pink screen occurs, SSH into your device (eg: remote terminal).
- type dietpi-bugreport
- fill out the instructions and post your Reference CODE

I will then be able to view your system settings and hopefully find out whats causing this.

Thanks

Your spot on. DietPi uses whiptail as the core interface.

Not sure why the menu isnt being displayed. If its only dietpi-config doing it, i'll have to dig through the code.
But i'll need the bug report as it uploads the users system settings. Always worth checking those first :)

I do not have access for ssh, ip for fault 192.168.0.100 I could not have connected either, it is logical I could not have formed anything, for the pink screen. I have tried in two tv with the same result, the two are fullhd.

descargada V83, como descargo la v90? con esto se podría resolver el problema, por lo menos probarlo a ver que pasa.
No encuentro link descarga V90.

Unloaded V83, since I unload it v90? With this the problem might solve, at least to try to see that it happens.
I do not find link unload V90.

Hi,

The current XU4 image is v83. It will update to v90 on first run. I tested my XU4 today and could not replicate the whiptail "pink screen" issue.

The IP address will be different for your network. Go to your router webpage and look for DHCP "connected clients" list. You should see a hostname called "dietpi" and its IP address. This will be the IP address you need to use.

Or you can type:

Code: Select all

ifconfig eth0 | grep "inet addr:" | awk '{print $2}'

I have the same problem with pink screen after first start.
Bugreport Reference CODE: 001e06310040-0

If i disconnect the monitor and reboot the XU4 i can see the menue on my cloud-display.
But the beginning and end of the text are cut of.
On the small display i can change the networksettings and log in with ssh.
From remote host i can make the config and software install.
But there are no options to install lxde, kodi and other.
After config and install of some softwarepacks and then reboot i can login on monitor into console.
Now i can start dietpi-software and so on.

Hi Dan,

long-time user and ENTHOUSIAST of your DietPi on Raspberry Pi.
After reading DietPi is available on Odroid, I thought, let's test it out.
I started fiddling this evening with an ODROID XU4, with emmc card (16GB).
I downloaded DietPi V83 for ODROIDXU4. (latest version on SourceForge)

I can confirm I have the same problem where I am first presented with a pink screen with "gplv2 compliance".
After clicking "Enter", the screen turns pink.

The device is not assigned an IP by DHCP, so I can't do any debugging.

Just give me a shout if you require me to test anything.

Greetings,

Maarten

Hi Maarten,

You wouldn't happen to be the Maarten from Grasshopper? If so, its been a while, hope all is well? :)

As you've mentioned the pink screen occurs after the GPLv2 prompt, i've narrowed it down to https://github.com/Fourdee/DietPi/blob/ ... 4279-L4329. The issue is occurring between the selected lines.

Is there any chance you could try the DietPi image using a MicroSD card, instead of EMMC?
If the pink screen reoccurs, and, your willing help testing, we can get this debugged together.

Thanks Maarten.

PS. Apologies to everyone for the delay in my response, i've been busy with RL and finishing off the DietPi image for VMware (virtual machine).

Hi Dan, it sure is me :-)

So I did as you requested I did following:

- took the emmc out of the device
- put the microSD in
- switched the toggle on the device
- powered on the device and behaviour is the same:

1. It reboots a few times
2. Asks to log in, which I do
3. Pink screen with the DietPi GPLv2 compliance shows (device does nothing)
4. I press [Enter]
5. A flash of the words "Dietpi-software"
6. Pink screen
7. No IP address assigned by DHCP

I did see a strange behaviour which I didn't have on Raspberry Pi:
- when the OGST circles show during startup, only 2 lines are scrolling underneath, so not the entire screen is used to dump output on
- During the dump of other stuff on the screen, only 7 lines are scrolling on the top of the screen

... I'll send you a mail with my screenshots

Just tell me how to proceed, my man. But take your time! I'll be at your disposal for further testing anytime.

Cheers man,

Maarten

Hi Maarten,

Thanks for offering your assistance and reports, appreciate it.

OK guys, i've modified the login script to save some information on your system.
.
I need one of you to do the following:
- Download the following file: http://fuzon.co.uk/downloads/login.zip
- Write a fresh XU4 DietPi image: http://sourceforge.net/projects/dietpi/ ... z/download
- Before ejecting, unzip the login.zip file and move it to /boot/dietpi/login (replacing the existing file on the flash device).
- Using a text editor (eg: wordpad), open /boot/dietpi/.version. Change the value from 83 to 100. Save and exit.
- Eject the flash media. Plug into your XU4.
- Power on the unit, go through each process until you are logged in.

Once logged in:
- You should see a message saying "Test completed, please poweroff your system".
- Power off your system.

Once the system is powered off:
- Plug your flash media into a PC
- Zip the contents of /boot/debug from the flash media.
- Email it to daniel_haze@hotmail.com

This should give me enough information to look into this issue further. Thanks guys.

Hi all,

I've been doing some testing and debugging with Maarten. It appears the Meveric image (which DietPi is based on) could be the cause.

During testing, in which both XU4 devices were identical (revision numbers), we found the following:
- Both systems can run the official HK 14.04 image without issues.
- On the system with the pink screen. If we updated the kernel using Meveric's repo (which installed the same kernel revision) before saving the DietPi image, the issue was resolved.
However, this caused 2 issues. The first being that upgrading the kernel using Meveric repo disabled my cloudshell display output. The second being that the other system would not gracefully connect the ethernet.

So the resolution:
If there is enough interest, I will create a new DietPi XU4 image, based on the official 14.04/15.04 HK images. This is the same method we used for the DietPi Odroid C1 image, where we strip the official image and add DietPi into it.

I've already started work on the new image, however, hit a brick wall already with cloudshell display on official HK images: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=99&t=16918.

I've created two test images.

If you had a pink screen before, please try the following images:
Test 1 = http://dietpi.com/downloads/test_1_dietpi_14.04.7z
Test 2 = http://dietpi.com/downloads/test_2_dietpi_15.04.7z

Let me know if you experience any issues with either image.

Thanks Ulysess,

Is there any chance you could also run test 1 at your convenience? I'd be grateful.

Hi all,

I've updated the DietPi image for Xu3/4. This should resolve the pink screen issues that some users experienced (thanks to ulysess and JagDoc for testing).

Thank you. Now it work fine.

Only one little problem:
After "startx" the mousepointer is not visible.
Finding the button in the left botton corner with the invisible pointer,
and open "customize look and feel" and move the mouse over the screen the mouspointer get visible and all works fine.

Hi JagDoc,

End user Desktop is not currently supported in XU3/4 image, as it requires HW accel, which I have not incorporated yet.
However, a Desktop via remote connection (VNC) is supported.

Thanks. :)
Unlike other distro projects, DietPi uses an online patching system which allows us to roll out instant updates, without the user having to write a new image each time. With that in mind, and support for 6 hardware devices, that's probably why we reached 100 so quick :)

This, and LXDE desktop has not been implemented yet. However, everything else is there. Makes a cracking server :)

I can't ssh to my XU4 with eMMC. Is it enabled by default? I tried official odroid ubuntu 14.04 and XeoSal's headless images and everything worked fine. Maybe i'm missing something
I flashed latest dietpi image with win32diskimager on my win10 laptop.
Edit: I don't have a screen i could connect to XU4 and check if os boots correctly.

Dropbear is installed by default on all DietPi images. I've not tested a eMMC module as I do not currently own one.
Could you please try a MicroSD card, for testing?

I tried microsd card and result is the same: blue led is flashing but i can't connect. I flashed ubuntu 14.04 image on the same sd card to make sure it's good. When i boot XU4 with any other OS it shows up on the "active clients" list in my routers admin panel, but it doesn't happen whit dietpi.

Thanks for the response. I have another user reporting the same issue: http://fuzon.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=206 using the 14.04 image.

The DietPi images for Odroid C1/XU4 are changing to Debian Jessie (based on the Odrobian image from XeoSal) soon. Odrobian has proven its stability and its updated kernel should resolve the issues you are experiencing.

I will need a few testers during testing. Would you be willing to test the image?

Default is Ethernet static with 192.168.0.100 (I think).
But 1st boot will resize the partition and ask for reboot.
Second boot (if connected) runs update and also ask for reboot.
I'm not shure that headless install is possible ... maybee that ssh is working after 3rt boot.

You should be able to install DietPi on a headless system. I do it regularly with my XU4/rpi/c1/orangepi.
It sounds like the network is being dropped after the update. I will need more system info to investigate.

Please can you send me a bugreport and reply with the reference CODE?

Code: Select all

dietpi-bugreport
If you are doing the bugreport offline, you will need to upload the .zip file also.
