Odroid USB GPS Module + Odroid XU4 not receiving location

Unread postby deneton » Sun Apr 01, 2018 4:52 am

Hello fellow hackers,

I have a problem with the GPS module connecting to the XU4, I can receive the data correctly, however it does not give location data. It works fine sometimes for a bit and then stops (without me changing any settings). The method of extracting the data doesn't matter - cgps -s , python serial input library both give the same result:

$GPGGA,193917.00,,,,0,00,99.99,,,,,*62\r\n

As far as I understand at least a single GPGSA should have been received before the data becomes valid but it does not.

I am guessing the issue could be related to the baud rate, which I have set to 4800 (I believe this is the correct one)
or
It could be related to the timeout or request.

I have followed the tips given in many forums about this issue such as editting the gpsd file to include GPSD_SOCKET= <path to .sock> and GPSD_OPTIONS = "/dev/ttyACM0"

Rebooting doesn't help.

Can you please help me?

The stock 9600bps should be fine.
Can you check the number of visible/active satellite with "gpsmon" program?
Since the USB-GPS RF reception is worse than a smartphone, you need to place the GPS antenna on a fully opened location.

The gpsmon command shows:
Sats: 12 13 14 24
I assume that means there are 4 satelites available?

However I haven't been able to reproduce the issue today, perhaps something was simply interfering with the signal before.
I need this to be reliable so I hope it doesn't come up again.

Thank you!
