HC2 voltage

Unread postby fyoory » Wed Mar 07, 2018 1:46 am

Hello,

I was looking at some HC2 to make some tiny NAS box here. Short story is want to interface to direct RV battery power bank but it may put out a bit more than 13 volts. It usually ranges about 13.2 to 13.5VDC. Is that too far out of spec? The web page only states 11-13v which seems like a rounded number to me off the cuff so better to ask. I could easily add a 12vdc vreg inline if need but rather not if internal one can handle it.

Because the HC2 DC-Jack input is directly connected to the 3.5" HDD via a simple load switch, the system input voltage tolerance is dependent on the HDD input voltage specification.
So you have to check the HDD specification.

For example, WD Red NAS storage, the 12Volt rail has 10% tolerance. So the maximum voltage must not be higher than 13.2Volt.

Thanks man. I will try to source the appropriate dc converter then or find some other means to lower that. Honestly hoped you had buried some regulator in the design when I saw 12V on the website but oh well cant fit everything on these.
