Setting up of 3.5 inch LCD touchscreen display on XU4

Unread post by Samuel Low » Thu Mar 01, 2018 3:42 am

Hi! I'm setting up my LCD screen (3.5 inch) which is found here:

https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/displ ... lcd_shield

All bolded words are words that actually appear on the Terminal in the Ubuntu MATE of my XU4.

I have run:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

With no problems

I then ran uname -a and got the following output in the line after uname -a:
$ uname -a
Linux odroid 3.10.105-141 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jul 27 04:03:10 UTC 2017 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux

All subsequent steps below were run fine, until I was told to: Find a flexfb framebuffer node
When I ran: $ ls /dev/fb*
My output was: /dev/fb0
The installation steps indicated that I should have a file fb2 and not fb0... I am wondering if this is a concern? Because in the next step, I run:
$ cat /sys/class/graphics/fb2/name
And my output was a blank linebreak... The instructions in the wiki URL above says it should output 'flexfb'. Is this going to be a major problem?

In ssubsequent steps, I had no issues running: $ sudo apt-get install fbset

But when I ran:
$ sudo con2fbmap 1 2
Output: ioctl FBIOPUT_CON2FBMAP: Invalid argument

What am I doing wrong here? I am using a fresh clean flashed image of Ubuntu Mate 16.04 which I got from the Hardkernel website. There were no issues flashing and I also ran a verification in the Win32DiskImager.

Did you connect the HDMI monitor while you ran the process? or via SSH connection?

BTW, you are running a very old kernel and OS image.
Flash this latest OS image and follow the system update instruction in this link.

Okay I will flash the new image and try it again. No I didn't connect my 3.5 inch LCD display while I was (trying to) configuring all the stuff on terminal from the wiki instructions but if you mean if I had used a HDMI to project the screen out yes I did I HDMI-ed out to a projector screen so I could see what I was doing :P

What do those error messages mean?

I have flashed the new image and I still get the original issues as per the original post... can someone please offer some guidance or advice on what to do? I've been stuck at this problem for days. Thanks!

Apologize for the ambiguous contents in the guide. It's been updated and please see that again.

Since you've not connected a monitor, the /dev/fb0 file would be for a LCD shield in your case. Proceed with that file :)
