HC1 not detecting ExFAT hard disk

I imaged the HC1 with openmediavault. However, the hard disk is not being detected through the web interface or the operating system itself (checked with lsblk). I thought the problem might be related to the disk never being initialized so I used a USB sata reader and formatted the drive as ExFAT with a Windows PC. The problem persists despite initializing the disk with ExFAT. How can I initialize the disk so it is recognized by the operating system?

lsblk should show you the partitions at least. What dies dmesg show when plugging in the disk?

Can you see your disk in "Storage" - "Physical Disks" menu?

No, the physical disk section only lists the (brand new) SD card. It is worth mentioning that I am using a Dell PowerEdge HDD (designed for use with the PowerEdge server series). The HDD is a few mm thicker than normal 2.5" HDDs. Maybe there is another difference which could contribute to the disk not being recognized. Maybe I'll try another standard HDD.

as far as i know "omv" only works with "ext4" partitions..
.i may be wrong but if you can partition the drive with ext4 you should be able to see it..
.if you have an odroid and a usb to sata bridge use gparted to partition the drive then omv should see the drive..i thought also if you follow the wiki it states thus ...saying it needs ext4 to work

I tried it again with two standard Hard Disks and it worked! It seems to be a compatibility issue with the PowerEdge series Hard Disks. Perhaps it requires more power. I consider the problem resolved.

The issue with those enterprise sata drives is they require 12 volts, unlike most 2.5 inch drives. I found this out with a few other SBCs and those 'server' 2.5 drives. Supporting documentation is here.

The odroid HC1 doesnt appear to provide it, not really a fault of the odroid. Very few 2.5 size drives (in fact, almost nothing but enterprise NLSATA drives) require the 12v. These drives also dont work in MOST 'mobile' usb docking stations, only powered ones.

I see. I hope HC1+ or HC2 will be compatible with the enterprise 2.5" HDDs since it has a 12Volt rail on the SATA port to support generic 3.5inch HDDs.

I didn't realize it, but I also have a Dell Constellation.2 salvaged from a server. I tried it a long time ago with the HK USB-Sata adapter and it didn't work, but worked with a powered Sata adapter from pollin (which supplied 12V). Also, although the disk is 2.5", it's a bit taller than standard laptop disks, so it may have a harder time to fit the HC1.
