XU4 stock fan replacement - another version

Post by TeHashX »

Hi all, after I seen this posts http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=15310 & http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=93&t=11080 I decide to replace my stock cooler with a Noctua NF-A4x10 5V but I take a different approach:

1 - With a help of a soldering gun I take off stock fan by putting it in the middle hole

2 - Then I melted the four plastic pieces on Noctua fan (warranty gone :()

3 - I take off the fan from his base

4 - Once again with the same soldering gun, I cut the middle of the base

5 - I cut the stock connector, soldered to the new fan and I glued new fan to old base.

6 - And last step, I mounted the combined fan to XU4 with original screws

The original case is fitting perfectly.
Like in other thread, the fan spins in the opposite direction but it's ok, it's quieter than original.
I have to try this script to see if get better results https://github.com/nthx/odroid-xu3-fan-control

Hi, I am very interested in what you did and how you did it. It is a pity the photos have gone.

Perhaps you could add a few words to describe some of the steps, in particular:

a. "I take off stock fan by putting it in the middle hole". Could you please provide a little more detail?

b. "Then I melted the four plastic pieces on Noctua fan". Which four pieces?

c. "Once again with the same soldering gun, I cut the middle of the base". Is "the base" the heatsink or something else? Could you please provide a little more information.

Your solution looks very neat and good. I assume you are still happy with it?

Best Regards and thank you,

David
