USB devices number limitation

Post by soel »

I am experiencing a problem with a XU-4:
expanding the USB ports through powered hubs I get the following message:
Not enough host controller resources for new device state
when I connect more than 12 devices (I am not sure about the exact number after which the error comes out).
Googling I found the hint of disabling the xhci module and use simply the ehci one, so I rebuilt the kernel just omitting xhci (all my devices are USB2.0)
but the rebooting Odroid I experienced some issue with the ethernet connection and with touchscreen, then I went back to the original kernel because the system was unusable.
Do you know if there are other tweaking to do for disabling xhci beyond omitting it,
or better is there a way to use a large number of devices also with the original kernel?
Thank you!

Since both of Ethernet and Hub controllers are using the USB 3.0 XHCI interface, it seems to be impossible.
You might need to try connecting (many?) USB 2.0 hubs to the USB 2.0 host port near the RJ45 jack.
