[SOLVED] XU4 eMMC device doesn't show up when SD card boot enabled

Post by dwbunger78 »

Device: XU4
eMMC os: OGST Deb Jess
SD os: Ubuntu 14.04LTS
ISSUE: mmcblk0p1,2... does not show up for the eMMC when I boot from the SD card.

So the issue that I'm experiencing is that when I boot Ubuntu from my SD card, I can't get to the eMMC device. I've checked in /dev/ for the eMMC device, expecting it to be either mmcblk0.... or mmcblk1.... but when booting off SD card I only have mmcblk0p1, mmcblk0p2, mmcblk0p3. I have tried several reboots, reseating the eMMC chip and even running the recovery flash that returns the eMMC back to Android (where it currently is, have not moved it back to OGST yet).

When I return the switch to eMMC, it boots and runs just fine. I have tried booting to SD card and once the SD boot is started quickly flipping the boot switch back to eMMC to no avail. I'm fairly proficient with linux in general, I'm at a loss on this one.

My searches do not reveal much info on anyone else having this type of issue. Any thoughts or diagnostics I could try?

Is there any specific reason to use very old 14.04 image?
Try flashing this latest Ubuntu 20.04 image into your SD card since it is hard find what's wrong in several years old Ubuntu 14.04 image.

The biggest reason I went with an older version is because I tried 20.04 first and it did not boot from SD. Well that was a stroke of genius I guess... That first download must've gotten corrupted. I redownloaded the image and flashed it again, booted up like no problemo. Thanks for the suggestion. I can now see all my storage in both the recovery Android image and on the Ubuntu 20.04 SD image boot.

No more issue! Thanks.
