odroid XU4 USB 3 performance with IDS USB 2 Camera

Unread postby stratisv » Tue Feb 23, 2016 8:54 pm

Hello,

we are facing the following problem:
We have an IDS usb 2 camera (USB 2 uEye LE industrial camera) which we connect to a XU4 running the latest ubuntu OS and latest kernel (Linux odroid 3.10.92-71) installed on an eMMC. We use the IDS' proprietary drivers for the camera. The camera works as intended when it is plugeed in the USB 2 port of the odroid board but when we plug the camera in the USB 3 port the camera does not work. To be more precise, the camera when it is connected to the USB 3 port gives us errors which are USB transfer failures.

Is there any way to get the camera working with the USB 3 ports?

What is result of "lsusb -t" when you connect it to the USB 3.0 port?

You might also need to clean the USB host ports.

Thank you for your reply. The lsusb -t recognised the camera as a USB 2 device.

Code: Select all
odroid@odroid:~$ lsusb -t
/:  Bus 06.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Vendor Specific Class, Driver=r8152, 5000M
/:  Bus 05.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 480M
/:  Bus 04.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M
/:  Bus 03.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 480M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/2p, 480M
        |__ Port 2: Dev 7, If 0, Class=Vendor Specific Class, Driver=usbfs, 480M
/:  Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=exynos-ohci/3p, 12M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Human Interface Device, Driver=usbhid, 1.5M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 3, If 1, Class=Human Interface Device, Driver=usbhid, 1.5M
/:  Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=s5p-ehci/3p, 480M

I have also cleaned the USB 3 ports but I still get transfer USB failures.

If your device was detected well, it seems not to be a hardware problem.
Can you try to check the USB host functionality with a USB flash drive?

Yes I did and it functions well. It is recognized as a USB 3 device and the transfer rate is high.

In that case, their proprietary driver seems not to be compatible with ODROID USB 3.0 ports.
PointGrey USB 3.0 camera also had a similar issue but it was resolved with their updated firmware.

@stratisv where you able to solve this problem. I also have 2 uEye USB 2.0 cameras and I guess I am facing the same problem you get.

My Kernel version is 4.14.5-92.

Thanks.
