So I'm wondering, I have yet to set up an on my odroid xu4 cloudshell2 running Ubuntu 18.04 . Is there a preferred method or suggested way to set up samba with this set up? A lot of what I have seen involves editing the fstab file. Is there an automated way to set up my 2 NTFS drives as network drives? Most of my Google results come up with general linux solutions like editing the fstab file I just didn't know if the odroid community it's self had a different approach or not.

See if this helps: https://magazine.odroid.com/article/set ... rpose-nas/
It's for 16.04, but should work for 18.04 with small tweaks as well.
I don't recommend using fstab, because the system will fail to boot if the disk is missing. You can use autofs and have the disk mounted automatically when needed. You can also use webmin for samba configuration.

Thanks for the direction I was also skimming this article:https://www.google.com/amp/s/websiteforstudents.com/samba-setup-on-ubuntu-16-04-17-10-18-04-with-windows-systems/amp/

I just want to avoid formatting the drives as they are already partitioned NTFS and have data on them

Make sure to mount them with the big_writes option. It makes a big difference.
