Changing boot resolution in headless setup [resolved]

Unread post by madbrain » Sat Feb 10, 2018 10:29 am

I am running a headless setup with x11vnc . I have it setup successfully. My problem is that the resolution is always fixed at 1024x768 .
I would like something larger, like 1920x1200 .
I tried to edit /media/boot.ini and uncomment
setenv videoconfig "drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=edid/1920x1200_60hz.bin"

but this had no effect upon reboot.

I noted that there is no file named
1920x1200_60hz.bin
anywhere on the SD card .

Is there a way to do this with the XU4 and make it choose a resolution when no HDMI monitor is connected ?

Or is the only way to use an alternate video driver like xserver-xorg-video-dummy ?

Re: Changing boot resolution in headless setup and x11vnc

BTW, if I hookup an HDMI monitor to it, then it properly switches the resolution . I can login via VNC and the resolution is 1920x1200 .

This is the case even though the physical monitor itself does not support 1920x1200 (it displays "out of range").

So, the issue appears to be that the resolution setting only applies if something is physically hooked up to HDMI ...

Is there another boot.ini setting I'm missing to make this work headless ?

Never mind, found it :

setenv HPD "false" in boot.ini works .
