Question: Do we have optimized graphics with the current build? I ask because on Kodi HD play 720/1080p is very slow and HTML5 support (video) doesn't exist.
Just wondering if we have the best xf86-video-armsoc version and libEGL/libGLES

xf86-video-armsoc optimization can be done by following this thread .. http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=11095 (NOTE the comment regarding gcc 4.9 )
There is an optimum libmali around (I think from here --> http://malideveloper.arm.com/develop-for-mali/drivers/) that libEGL* and libGLES* should be symbol linked too as well ...

What are your thoughts?
Bernie
I have Kodi 15.0 Alpha 2 and just watched a 720p series and it played fine. Also tried one 1080p movie and it was also good!

Oh, I better have a look at my network speed then .... is there an android app to check that?
EDIT: Of course there is OOKLA ... :o

EDIT2: ACtually I tried 1080i in kodi and although it does play, I notice the following:
1. Hardware accel: A lot of frames dropped, occasional jerkiness, no de-interlace support. 4x cpu @60%
2. Software accel: Occasional frame loss, smoother, de-interlace with bob, 4x cpu @80%

So at the moment software decoding wins ..

@valexi Can you report your dropped frames ( ctrl-O while playing)

@voodik:
So since gcc 4.9 has better support for heterogeneous multi-processing (HMP) used on XU3, should we not use that version of the compiler and pass switches like
'-march=armv7ve -mcpu=cortex-a15.cortex-a7' to get optimum performance? what do you think?

Keep up the good work :D

Actually pressing O is enough.

Hi Voodik,

My USB GPS (http://www.csgshop.com/product.php?id_product=170) not is supported CM12.1, but works great on Android_4.4.4_Alpha_1.7_Apr-13-2015. That I should make that GPS earned?

Thanks!

Ok, guys your machines are obviously better than mine ..

Can you please post build of kodi and os so I can make sure we are on the same page.. also are you playing video from the eMMC? Hardware/software acceleration etc
By the way, where does kodi keep all it's user data? (it used to be ~/.kodi on linux) I want to trash it to go back to a clean system.

Thanks

Many thanks. Actually I found it was my particular 1080i test video that has problems, I tried other videos and also streaming 1080p/720p off the net and all was good, no frames dropped :D
I also connected to my current tvheadend server and watching HD TV was also great. Shame about lack of de-interlace though ..

I have some questions:
1. What is the amc-h264 codec, is that the hardware accelerated one like the MFC?
2. In Kodi I notice that 1080p on-line videos are getting scaled to 1920x800 or 1920x768, is this normal? I have a 1920x1080 monitor I am using for testing.
3. Why does kodi have a "Search Error" notification that won't go away.
4. I take it CD/DVD Roms drives are not supported yet via USB?

PS: I have Fusion plugin installed and works great

@voodik: I don't have the USB-SERIAL cable to flash the zImage file, is there another way I can flash the kernel?

EDIT: 3. Found I had to disable the "twitter" plugin

Cheers,
B

You should be able to use a microUSB cable connected to the XU3 like you can on the XU.

The USB 3.0 OTG port should be able to fit a microUSB cable in half of the port.

Once you've connected to the XU3 and have the adb/fastboot drivers installed, open up a command prompt/terminal and use the following commands (without quotes).

"adb devices" (make sure the XU3 shows up as an adb device)
"adb reboot fastboot" (the XU3 should reboot into fastboot mode)
"fastboot devices" (make sure the XU3 shows up as a fastboot device)
"fastboot flash kernel zImage" (flashes the specified kernel image)
"fastboot reboot" (reboots the XU3)

I'm thinking of buying a better bluetooth keyboard. This model maybe:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us ... e-keyboard

It would be good as I would be able to use it with my tablet also.

What USB-bluetooth modules does this ROM support? (I didn't buy one, when ordered XU3)
Is this one supported?

I don't know, only people who have this module can ask us.
I only tested Odroid Bluetooth module and Dlink DBT-122

@Voodik
So your last instructions with the USB-SERIAL cable were to flash the "zimage-dtb" file, do you still use this file or the "zimage" file?
(I take it the -dtb image containes the device tree binary file as well ..)

Cheers,

voodik,

Is there any way to compile the kernel and get rid of the "-dirty" part of the version magic string?

Then I could just copy across the extra modules to the running kernel and they would load, because the kernel is the same version anyway..
(would save time having to flash the kernel each time as well ..)

You are right! It's a bit of a sloppy fit, but it works .. showed up a device with "adb devices" :)
... and the new kernel runs ... yay! :D

Hi everyone!

I have a problem since i have updated to lollypop. I have lost my ethernet connection. With 4.4.4 works perfectly but now i have no idea about how to restore my lan and internet connection. I believe that it can be a simple problem because i have not seen other users with the same problem. Someone can help me? Many thanks to all of you.

I'm impressed how fast XU3 has progressed thanks to some really hard work from voodik and the odroid staff. Seriously, you guys all rock and builds like this are changing the way engineers and developers approach infotainment hardware and software.

Can anyone confirm the 7" Chalk-Elec touchscreen bug is fixed in this build as mentioned by Riko previously in the thread?

I have my XU3 lite coming in a few days and can help debug if not. This LCD is really the best in car option right now and I'm always sad when it works out of the box with pretty much all popular ARM systems but not ODROIDs.

Lan is working, but you can't assign ip address manually, you need DHCP server on your router.

Hi Voodik,

I am making progress. I have the kernel modules loaded and firmware for the Sony PlayTV dual tuner (or WinTV Nova-T), the main module is dvb-usb-dib0700 and modprobe pulls in
all the dependencies .. I have some questions on going on from here to support tvheadend.

1. How do I load modules at startup in android, I am used to the /etc/moprobe.d of linux.
EDIT: Ahh, found the file init.odroidxu3.rc ...insmod my modules there ;)

2. For building TVHeadend, my next step, what is the best way to build outside the "external" directory, tvheadend is normally built for android like this:

Code: Select all

./configure --disable-avahi \
              --disable-libav \
              --enable-bundle \
              --enable-android \
              --arch=armeabi-v7a \
              --cc=../android-toolchain-14/bin/arm-linux-androideabi-gcc \
              --android_toolchain=../android-toolchain-14
make
I have found where to point --cc to in your build tree,
but I don't know where to point --android_toolchain. Also, tvheadend compile needs the openssl libs and headers somewhere in the build path, how do I include those.

3. And when tvheadend is built, what is the best way of starting the service on startup.

Many Thanks for your help
Bernie

Can anyone confirm the built-in microphone port isn't working? Using the same y cable that works on the ODROID U3 to breakout mic and stereo.

Because there is no DMA driver for the I2S receiver path, it is not easy to implement the audio input driver.
We will try to reuse or reimplement it. But it seems not to be a short term project. :(

I think i'm not seeing a single option or something but I have no idea about how to solve my problem. Sorry but i´m quite noob on android.

I never tried compile something outside android tree. And my tree don't have a any difference with other android trees (AOSP, Slimrom etc).
For such questions please open separate topic in XU3 Android forum. Sorry, but this question not related my Android build. Maybe someone else who not reading this thread answer your question.

Hi Guys,

Just reporting that I have tvheadend running on odroid-xu3 together with kodi.
Some puzzling performance issues though.

1. Watching the video stream producted by tvheadend on another networked machine is fine, even HD.
2. Using Kodi to watch 720p and 1080P on-line movies is fine ..
3. Using Kodi to watch a tvheadend TV stream is blocky and un-watchable
4. Using Kodi to watch tvheadend streamed from another networked machine is also fine.

Anyone have any ideas why having them(kodi & tvheadend) both on the same machine (odroid) is not working, but those other combinations do?

There was this one guy trying to achieve this.

Maybe you should go there and ask if he ever got it to work. Or even combine your strength! :)

Hmmm... I have been troubling with MKV files with Kodi or the default video Player.

I've tried two movies so far and they all close up in some point. (Kodi reverts to file screen)

Can some of you try this one and see if you can make over 40 mins of it?

Code: Select all

Hello,

i've seen the camera app is fixed using the Camera2 API...
I'm building an app that needs to get a picture, so i tried the google sample "android-Camera2Basic" from here: https://github.com/googlesamples/android-Camera2Basic
when i start the sample i get this error "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: cameraId was null at android.hardware.camera2.CameraManager.openCamera(CameraManager.java:371)"
how to fix it?

Any idea or working sample is welcome :D thx

... Solved

Hi Guys,

I just tried out this build connected to my TV (Panasonic Plasma) and find that it will only display at screen resolution of 720p even though I have android utility set to 1920x1080@60 and boot.init is
showing that resolution as well.

Connected to a monitor, it works at 1080 just fine.

Is there any tweaking I can do to get my TV to work at 1080? I am used to doing any necessary tweaking in xorg.conf on linux, although I havn't had to do that with the latest Linux, it just works at 1080.
Is there an equivalent place on android, or is it all done in boot.ini ... and I don't know how android handles EDID info from the display ..

Thanks,

@voodik,

Another question: I have the excellent ViaPlay G2 remote keyboard/mouse/touch panel which works very well for android/kodi as it has dedicated android function keys.
It also supports pinch-and-zoom on it's touch pad which does not work on this build. Is there some module that needs to be included to support pich-and-zoom operation?

This remote does not need any drivers and works over HID.

Thanks,
Bernie

EDIT: It seems the pinch-and-zoom only works for viaplay supported devices. Shame really this is a really good media remote.
For anyone interested it is here: http://www.via-play.com/SmartRemote.asp?cid=22

@bmentink
The EDID skip option is not working correctly on the Android Kerrnel.
We found the root cause and will push the changes into the github after some more tests.

Hey voodik, thanks for the image!
I am looking forward to testing it in the next few days.

Now to my question to you guys:
Can anyone send me an uinput.ko module for this image or give me a hint how to build it myself?

Hey voodik.
I think I found the reason, why big HD movies didn't work correctly.
Kodi caches file from USB-HDD to SD card. SD card is formatted to vfat? by default. With default cluster size the max filesize is 2GB and that's why videos stop somewhere around that filesize limit.

Can you make your ROM to format SD card to exFAT or ext4 by default? That way we could check if that is the reason?

OR: If I take EMMC card from odroid and format the sdcard partition to ext3 or ext4, does your ROM mount it correctly?

UPDATE: I took my other EMMC card and installed odroid stock android 4.4.4 alpha 1.7. Then installed Kodi 15 beta 1 and tried same movies mentioned earlier.

It worked. Seeking works fast and the whole file can be played. Tried 1080p and 720p. Both works.

Now we must figure out why it does not work with voodik's cm12.1 image?

Here is a video, how fluently seeking works with HD movies in 4.4.4. Can someone try with CM-12.1 and check how it works?
https://vimeo.com/127562144

For me I cannot seek at all (CM-12.1) or it takes really LONG time. Also video stops playing in some point.

@valexi
I think your external USB-HDD is formated NTFS(which is mounting read only on android), you can format it to exFAT to resolve seek, cache issues.
