On the message quoted after, qxtgo claimed it had a 20s boot time...
I tryed his settings, I may be missing something, but the best I can achieve is around 37 s.
What are the main parameters that I may change to give a little more power to the XU4 with this Adnroid distro (at Kernel and Android distro level) ?

BTW
Your build has no problem, i successfully installed it , you just need select "Format userdata" when updating from lineage-14.1-alpha-1.0 version.
Also i suggest you run "repo sync --force-sync"
then again build android.
I fixed some issues in according OdroidUpdater and setupwizard.
https://github.com/voodik/android_packa ... ae79f87538
https://github.com/voodik/android_packa ... 4987c3665d

P.S.
Now i merging whole tree with latest sources. so if you not sleeping please wait 4-5 hours before run repo sync

Success :D

did several test builds and checked them on my testdevice.
finally I updated my headunit controller, worked w/o "Format userdata"

changed some properties and settings, boot time now ~20 sec instead of ~50 sec
enabled the CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_CH341=m, but I have to load the kernel module manually before use. Have to discover where to change this..

hope all the changes ( primary the build.prop and default.prob) are correct, but everything works as expected.

changes summary:

next steps would be
-i2s connection to my monkeyboard, asked hk in annother post, hope this advances.
-sleep(suspend to disk) mode as I asked in any former post.
-find out where to set the initial 1024x600 from my VU7+ for a fresh install so the buttons of the setup wizard do not appear off screen, cause at this time a boot.ini doesnt yet exist.

firstly many thanks to voodik for your work with this project.
I am trying to install on SD card only not emmc (I dont need the speed/cost of emmc for my application)
so far I have no success. md5 is checked so image is good.
If I wait a long time I get the blue led heatbeat but only for a few seconds and it stops again, likely in a reboot loop, but no display for any more information.

the video also says this only works on emmc, but this might be older information now, can somebody confirm if the current build can work on SD only please, and any ideas how to get my xu4 going.
thanks

@gruf,
Did you flash "android-lineage-14.1-alpha-1.3-sd_installer-odroidxu3-2017-12-14.img.zip" with Etcher to your SD card?

yes, correct, this is the (current at the time of posting) build I used
android-lineage-14.1-alpha-1.3-sd_installer-odroidxu3-2017-12-14.img.zip

unzipped to the .img file and used W32disk imager not Etcher to a Sandisk 16GB card (same card had previsoult been running in the xu4 without issue

update: my bad - it was 11-25 build
I will retry with the latest 12-14 build

You don't need to unzip if you use Etcher. We feel Etcher is more stable and reliable than Win32DiskImager.

I tried again with 12-14 - no success.
will repeat but with etcher.
thanks

edit: result same :(
appears stuck in a bootloop with no display. heartbeat for about 10 secs then blue light on/off as it would if rebooting, jsut cycles.
this hardware has all worked previously, tried a different monitor in case - result same.
suggestions appreciated.

Just a quick question I have an XU4 with the image from the mdjr.net/voodik repository but I am on the CM-14.1 folder. Is it OK to switch to the updates found in the lineage-14.1 folder? How do I switch the updater to this alternate folder?

Thanks

I just received my Odroid XU4 and tried to install the Linage OS 14 on EMMC. Did everything as shown in the video in the topic and steps mentioned here. I burned the image on SD card, booted from SD and waited till it transferred the image to EMMC. Now I get bootloop each time I start the device. Can you guys help me with this?

Can you check is everything ok with your hardware by installing official KitKat image?
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/os_i ... droid/v6.0
Then you can directly update from KitKat to LineageOS-14.1

I suggest you install latest version via selfinstall images.
Code: Select all
https://oph.mdrjr.net/voodik/5422/ODROID-XU3/Android/lineage-14.1/Alpha-1.3_14.12.17/

Support of old/CM-14.1 images is deprecated by me.
We are moved to mainline u-boot and created new universal partition scheme for Android images.
With new images you get more internal storage.

Yeah I was able to install the official KitKat image. When I try to install the Linage OS using SD2EMMC method I get a bootloop. When using the updater method I get a black screen with no further changes. After I click on Restart To Update in Odroid Updater app the blue LED shuts down, the fan starts to spin and I get a black screen with no changes after 15-20 minutes. The blue LED is still OFF

BTW The same happens when I try to use GAPPS installer app in official KitKat build

Seems that updating just damages the data on the EMMC as if I unplug the power cable after an hour and try to power the device again it doesn't boot. the blue LED doesn't show any signs of life and the screen remains black. So each time I have to reinstall the official KitKat image using SD2EMMC method

1.0 is installed and I want to update to your latest Version.

1.0 has been installed as a new system, it was not updated from an older version.

Can you dump logcat after crash ?

Finally got the logcat and attached it.

In the process I got to wonder if I am already on 1.0. Version String is 14.1-20170703-UNOFFICIAL-odroidxu3

When I start the updater and press "Get latest Version" - the Version print is always .../ODROID-XU3/Android/CM-14.1/Alpha-1.0_25.09.17/update.zip - i usually replaced this with your latest URL, since this auto-found URL does not work in the first place.

Then I continue as intended until app crashes while extracting. Logcat contains full crashdump as also a variable dump of updater app.

Hope this helps

Good news.
I fixed WiFi re-connection BUG.
Also i make our GPS HAL lib more smarter. In case when USB device removed and connected again or USB hub reset occurs now our GPS lib re-connecting to dongle.
So you don't need reboot anymore to get GPS working again.
Post here your GPS dongles USB VID and PIDs to separate them from other USB Serial devices and make GPS functionality more stable.
This features will be available in next build.

@voodik - update on my update issue:

Since I figured out I am on 0.9 i thought maybe updating to 1.0 was a good idea and would enable me to finally update to latest Version. I used the modified path of .../ODROID-XU3/Android/OLD-CM-14.1/Alpha-1.0_28.09.17/update.zip.

Extract worked without issues. Was a bad idea though, my odroid wont boot anymore - or at least I dont get a picture on HDMI.

Probably will start fresh from latest 1.3

If you don't want make full wipe
You need recover your u-boot via micrsd card.

But in general i recommend install fresh one(1.3 at this moment) via selfinstall image.

a fresh sd2emmc image will wipe all my /data in the process? Can I back it up and restore later? Since my 0.9 data should work with 1.3 since its the same branch of underlying LaOS?

https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/soft ... 4_to_7.1.1

Do you have a USB-UART Module Kit ?
I need logs to understand where is the problem.
I double checked selfinstall images today and everything is ok.

Nope, sorry I don't have the USB-UART kit yet. Is there any other way I can get the logfile?

P.S. Tried again. After SD card transfers the image to EMMC I remove the SD card change boot mode to EMMC and turn on the device. First 5 seconds the blue led is still then in starts to blink for 10 seconds. After 15 seconds the fan trurns off for a second and the cycle repeats

Thanks again for this invaluable info. I am on 1.3 now without losing my data.

For any other user on 0.9-emmc or (probably) below:

- You have to update to 1.0 first. In your updater, enter https://oph.mdrjr.net/voodik/5422/ODROI ... update.zip as the updater path. Get through with the update and reboot.
- Your device wont boot now. Give it a decent amount of time anyways, not sure if the device does something in this phase. To be sure wait 15 Minutes.
- Put the image from https://oph.mdrjr.net/voodik/5422/ODROI ... 25.img.zip via Etcher on a SD-Card, put the sdcard into your XU3/4, switch it to boot from MicroSD and give it Power. This will just take a short moment.
- Remove the sdcard, switch back to boot from eMMC and now your 1.0 should be booting just fine
- Finally start the updater again. It should by itself find the path to the latest release - in my case I did go from 1.0 to 1.3. Just follow it like usual, give it 15-20 Minutes time after reboot and you should be done and on latest Lineage.

Hope this helps at least one poor soul in my situation!

I just did a test. I wanted to know if there is any hardware problem with my XU4 or if there are any issues with the Updater app so I installed the previous build of the official KitKat build and was able to update it to the latest version using updater app. Seems there is no problem neither with the updater app nor with the hardware. But still when I try to install Linage OS I get a bootloop when using sd2emmc method and when using updater app the device simply shuts down with no further actions.

Thanks for all the work voodik!

One question though: been using an old version of this for quite some time, 0.4 to be precise and wanted to update to a current one, after doing so I noticed /dev/i2c-5 is now missing. How can I activate it again? Guess I have to compile from source?
Tested with 1.2, can't download and try 1.3 at the moment because of sh.. internet ..

Thanks in advance!

I tryed his settings, I may be missing something, but the best I can achieve is around 37 s.
What are the main parameters that I may change to give a little more power to the XU4 with this Adnroid distro (at Kernel and Android distro level) ?

Hi, you are right.

Initial after a clean fresh setup w/o apps installed i got ~ 20-25 sec.
Played around with disabled bootanimation, deleted bootanimation zip, no improvement.
Now i am also having around 35 sec.

I use by setup in conjunction with an arduino which does CAN decoding and starts the odroid whe the doors are unlocked.
The odroid shuts down an adjustable time after car ist stopped and locked.

But the real effort would be a suspend to disk mode to have boot times around a few seconds. Nobody an idea on this ??

Keeping the odroid running needs around 450mA (Display off) in my setup, so no good idea, the battery gets discharged.

Hi,
yes, that was the trick, Thank you!

One more question: my GPS Module (original Hardkernel, 1546:01a7) does not appear as dev/ttyGPS(?x?), still is /dev/ttyACM2
What could be wrong there ?

You can do it manually by invoking command line tools like ip, ifconfig, route and the like. Once you figured out your solution, you can automate it via shell script.

If you are not feeling familar with unix shell and those pesky commands I suggest buying a cheap router or access point which has WiFi and at least 2 Network Ports - better more - and configure it as a client. See it as an external network card instead of a router/ap.

First off thank you for the port, much appreciated! I just got my xu4 silent (no fan) and when trying to browse add-ons inside KODI, if I go to TV>NETWORK> then select a network, it brings up a list of shows and about 5 seconds later the entire box reboots. Running KODI 17.6. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Also wanted to add that by putting the resolution to 1080i I can get further but still reboots when trying to play the videos. Almost seems like its getting to hott (is very warm to the touch).

Can you explain more detail how can i reproduce the issue ?

Are you talking about Odroid XU4Q ?
Or you removed cooler by yourself ?
Which Kodi addons installed?
Which version of Android Lineage-14.1 is installed ?
Because i can't reproduce the issue.

XU4Q
Kodi 16.4 running neptune rising
Latest Lineage
Going to TV>Network>Bravo> then scrolling down the menu it reboots the box
I was able to fix the rebooting by turning off the CEC option in the odroid menu but now the audio is mono and pops alot.
[*EDIT]Forced Audio through HDMI and audio is fixed. No issues now but the CEC option still reboots odroid if checked.

Hello.
I have your image installed on sd-card in the selfinstall version.

But every time when the android screen switches, my monitor goes blank for about 5 seconds. This does not only affect application screens, but opening a popup like a date chooser is enough to make the screen go blank.
Is there a solution to the problem or is it a bug in the latest build?
I suspect that the screen switch disables hdmi for a short time and then re-enables it or something similar.

(XU4Q) tried redownload/reinstall, Etcher and update from 4.4.4 build (which works fine) - no success.
Just stuck in a bootloop with no display, so not easy to diagnose without additional hardware.
tried several hdmi displays now so not just an issue with a sinlge display.

suggestions?

I still have no success on installing the LineageOS 14.1 build. Have tried again last night using different sd cards, power adapters but still no result. Is it possible that the build is not compatible with my EMMC? It is the 8gb version with stock android on it. Here is the image.

Any Ideas?

Edit.

After trying the updater method I couldn't boot up. The blue led flashed and the fan turned on for a couple of seconds then both went off. So I tried to use use sd2emmc method right on without formatting the emmc and it didn't work as well because the same happened (blue led flashes, the fan works for a couple of seconds then goes off)
I guess during update process the bootloader got damaged.

So I deleted all the partitions on the emmc, performed a low level format and installed the stock KitKat from scratch and it worked. I don't know but seems that LineageOS is the only build I am having problem with.

So without USB-UART Kit is very difficult to understand what happens,
BTW.
Are you using microsd to sd adapter or some USB micro sd reader/writer?
In my mind i have a lot of issues with image writing when i use micro sd to sd adapters.
Finally after getting this one issues resolved.

Are you tried install and boot from sd instead of EMMC ?

P.S.
If you living in Yerevan we can debug your hardware together at the end of January.

Haven't tried to boot from SD as the main reason I purchased the XU4 is the booting speed, so I haven't even thought about booting from SD :D I will try that...

P.S. Yeah I live in Yerevan and it would be great if we are able to meet. The beer is on me :)
