Odriod XU 4 water cooled max temp 38c on full load

Post by mlwood37 »

Weve quickly put together a All in one (AIO) single 120mm rad and fan with inbuilt pump. After a bit of hacking weve done this so far but needs a bit of cleaning up.

Need to do a bit of tiding up and sort out a single power connector for it all. Hopefully this will be fully free standing all in one cooling and XU4.

Temp wise we never go over 38c on full load.

The top cpu is water cooled with the base also being air cooled. The air come in from the back though the rad to water cool the CPU / GPU and then the air basse over the back of the board to air cool the ass end of the PCB, solving the issues of having a hot ass :).

**UPDATE**

We have now got the odroid down to 38c on full load buy adding a brace to the board and tightening down the water block more. (she no longer warps).

Very cool, not getting hot with that setup.

It's a ek chip set block that I have modified as it didn't fit correctly. I chamfered 5he edges and handed down the block a little. Also I cut it down to fit around the sound jack.

Sick! how much does it weigh and how much did you pay for the cooling?

EK sells 250+ different blocks, which one specifically.

the cost for me is nothing as I own Mayhems a liquid cooling manufacturing company. I used spare parts to build it. The laser cut parts took about 20 min to make. As for the block it's an older ek block I had lying around. The all in one I stripped down and modified it so I could refill it with our new nanotechnology fluid. Approximately it would have cost about £40 to make if I was to sorce every thing second hand.

These are basic plans not to scale (just to show were im upto so far)

Image

Plans include

1) Set of fins to lift the PCB away from the Radiator so more air flow around the base of the PCB.
2) Housing with no side for the LCD (side plate will come later once i have the power converter).
3) Fan Grill for the 120mm Fan at the back
4) Stand off and Brace for the back of the XU4 to stop it from bending when under pressure.

More to come later once i get time.

The XU 4 and Water cooling unit (corsair) Inc the 120mm Fan are powered from a single 12v 5 amp line. The Power controller knocks the line to 5v 4 amps for the XU4 and keeps the 12V 1 amp line for the pump and fan. This will save having two power leads to the system and allows full control and monitoring of the power usage of the XU4 its self. Ive replaced the corsair fan with a Darkside 120mm Nidec - Gentle Typhoon Performance Radiator Fan - 1850rpm so a lot more air is pushed through the system once again cooling it even further. Once all tests are run ill rebuild and re do the laser cut parts to incorporate it into an all in one system with a single power lead running the lot.  In the Vid you can see me pushing the chip to its limits via android and CPU burn in test.

Simplifying the build.

The previous build is complex to assemble so i have re done the drawing and will try a second attempt were its a lot easier to put together. This is a build incorporating the power controller so that the cables do not snag behind the layers of the build. I have added the Power in for the whole build and also the adapter to power converter as well. Ill laser cut these later once the rest of the parts arrive for the second build.

As you can see, you can adjust the build to suit your needs incorporating any type of LCD or power converter.

Have you did the same test as in this cooling test on this YouTube video?

If it don't have to throttle down this would be very good.

If it does work good is someone going to sell a kit for this then?

All so what way is the fan blowing? I guess it should be going from the Odroid to the fan not the fan to Odroid because the heat from the water cooler would be going on the Odroid but the Odroid heat going on the cooler my be better.

Nice job!

For the 12 to 5 volts you should of just got one of the car converters. it does 5.1 Amp but out of 3 USB ports You could get something like a Y USB cable to use 2 ports on it. So on it's 2.1 and 2.0 USB ports would get 4.1 amp at 5 volt.
